  1. Am I missing something?? Cecchini is in high A ball. Why would we ever skip AA and AAA?? If we're going to be aggressive with someone, it would likely be Bogaerts, and slide him into 3B in the meantime while Middlebrooks recovers. But I don't see that happening either. I would guess it will be someone like Brandon Snyder, who plays 1B, but could slide over to 3B. He's hitting .330/.423/.628 with 6 HR in 27 games at Pawtucket. He plays the majority of his games at 1B but also has 67 games of experience at 3B.
  2. Right, but saying he's better than Dempster going forward isn't a huge proclamation. Lets not forget the opinions everyone had of Demp coming into this season. Given, he's substantially outperformed those expectations, but in a from-here-on sense, it's not at all unreasonable to say Webster is the better pitcher.
  3. I agree with that, but I don't think Webster qualifies.
  4. I certainly think Webby is right up there with Dempster. You can certainly make a case that, the way Dempster is throwing the baseball right now, he's better than Webster. But you can also say that Dempster is throwing more like an excellent #2 right now than anything. But if I were to tell you that both Webster and Dempster were FA's right now, and you had to choose one or the other for this season and this season only, I think a lot of people would roll the dice with Webster because he's got a chance to be up there with Buch and Lester. And if Webster throws like a solid number 2, that's an excellent #4 to be throwing out there.
  5. Now they're saying Webster to start for Doubront, who will throw out of the bullpen but will make his next start. Sorry, but Webster hit 100 in his last start in Pawtucket, and has been nothing short of dominant. Don't say it's just a spot start because, lets be honest, he's probably the 3rd best pitcher on the team right now. EDIT: that last paragraph is intended to the Sox FO, not you.
  6. Worst decision ever. Websters floor is Doubronts ceiling (hyperbole noted). But seriously, why the hell are we going to watch this guy give us 5 crappy innings where he gets lit?? Pitch him in long relief while he gets his arm strength. He's useless as a starter right now. You need a piggy back for him.
  7. Allen Webster in the house!!!! Pleaseopleaseoplease be here to replace Doubront.
  8. Nevermind (!!!!!!!) “@brianmacp: Allen Webster is here.”
  9. Totally! What gives?!?
  10. Am I the only one who is well beyond shocked that Doubront hasn't been DL'd yet?? If Webster doesn't start tomorrow I may lose it.
  11. 100% agree. Really love this move actually. Wonder who comes up. Pedro Beato is a very interesting option. He was downright dominant in the WBC and it has carried over into his year this year, 2.25 era. Also could go with a Chris Hernandez as a long man, he's been piggy backing RDLR's starts lately. Jose De La Torre and Ryan Rowland Smith have both had a lot of success in the pen in AAA too.
  12. Gotta be tempting to bring up De La Rosa for stints out of the pen but the last thing you want to do is stunt his development, especially after he was just bumped to a 75 pitch count. Still, though, that power arm and his recent success (last few outings) have to make the Sox brass contemplate bringing him up for 8 days while Bailey is out. Don't think 1 week would hurt his development.
  13. Easy man. I'm on vacation and intermittently checking this. I didn't read those other posts
  14. I agree. My point is that Taz should close. Low walks, less bombs.
  15. My point is that in a 1-2 run game, I don't like having a guy who gives it up at a higher rate than other pitchers
  16. Not to mention that Uehara is very HR prone.
  17. Agree, can't remember the last time Buch squared one up.
  18. He needs to not make another start until he's back to 93-95. Period. He is ineffective at 88-90. He needs to be on the DL with dead arm until his velocity returns. Period. He can build his velocity in Pawtucket or go down to XST and build arm strength. But until he's back to throwing hard, he's going to get torched.
  19. Bingo. Take the sense of entitlement out of the little jerk off. He is going to be a lazy SOB every other year it seems. The Beckett effect. Except when he's good, he's not that good.
  20. Which is why I think they need to DL Doub and bring up Breslow until Thurs and then bring up Webster and option Wilson or DL Bailey. Certainly can't keep making the RP get 9-11 outs a game
  21. That good news is that the Sox have a mega cakewalk schedule coming up the rest of this month: 4 v MIN (13-14) 3 v TOR (11-21) 3 @ TB (14-16) 3 @ MIN (13-14) 3 @ CWS (12-17) 4 v CLE (14-14) 2 v PHI (14-18) 2 @ PHI (14-18) The Sox should win each of these series, and play at least .667 baseball. Should is the key word. And I like their chances of doing just that. If they are able to do that, they should be around 36-19 or 35-20 by the end of the month. And i wouldn't be shocked if they were even 38-17 after these series.
  22. Not sure what the hold up is, but with the bullpen being used as much as it was, the Sox need to DL Doubront, call up Breslow, and have an extra arm in the bullpen until Thursday, when they can then option Wilson (assuming Bailey doesn't hit the DL) and call up Webster to take Doubront's start. Doubront was a mediocre back of the rotation starter when he was sitting 93-94 and touching 96. Now he's a depth option. Webster is a better pitcher today than Doubront.
  23. Vacation: revived. Best GT of the year. And it's not close.
  24. There's no reason to look externally, we've got Lavarnway hitting .311/.423/.492 in AAA right now. Bring him up. And if you're worried about facing RHP, don't. He's got a .914 OPS vs RHP, .921 vs LHP.
