  1. Brentz just homered. He now has 5 HR, and homered on Sunday, Monday, and now Tuesday. If Victorino is out for any length of time, he's gotta be your call up.
  2. That's an uptick from last year for Owens - I believe last year he was sitting 91-93. He is only, what, 19? So if he's sitting 93-95 now, he'll probably be a 94-96, touching 97-98 when he's 23 or 24.
  3. I hear this a lot, and while its technically true, it's also very misleading. From a story on Fangraphs today, titled The Blue Jays Are In Trouble: It's a very valid and often times missed point. Yes, the season is 137 more games, but the big decisions come in July, that's when you have to decide whether or not you're in contention. These slow starts for the Jays, or quick starts for the Sox, are a lot more meaningful than people realize.
  4. This is exactly what I was trying to preach this offseason too. Health and return to career norms and/or potential. Good for you Manny - I didn't realize that we were in the same boat
  5. I agree - Bard is on Cherrington and the FO. That was entirely on the new FO, decision had nothing to do with Theo. On the other hand, I would do it all over again, mainly because the value of a young, cost controlled SP is so insanely high, and Bard had a very high ceiling. If it bombs out, you lose a stellar bullpen arm, but those are fairly easy & cheap to replace (see: Uehara, Tazawa, et all).
  6. It's called Sweet Cheeks. And it went incredibly downhill over the past few months. Like, off a cliff. My wife and I went over there on Easter, and it made us both extremely sick. Just awful. It used to be really good.
  7. You act as if developing a starting pitcher is not insanely more valuable to an organization than developing a closer.
  8. I think 2012 was very clearly more on Epstein than on Cherrington, although one could very easily point to the fact that Cherrington was very influential in the decisions to trade for and sign Gonzalez, sign Crawford, and extend Beckett. Then again, if we're going to put partial blame on Cherrington for those moves, we also have to place blame on Mike Hazen for any problems that you want to blame Cherrington for.
  9. Bard said, multiple times, "I can start or I can close, and I think I can do either of them really well". Did he prefer to start? Sure. But don't act like Bard had Cherrington and the FO's nuts in a grinder telling them he starts or he turns into a diva. Cherrington very clearly made Bard a SP because it's much easier and cheaper to find a bullpen piece than a starting pitcher with the upside that Bard showed. It was a good gamble to take. It backfired, which sucks, but at the time, I agreed with the decision. The organizational philosophy wasn't altered to adhere to one player. The organizational philosophy was altered due to market conditions and the financial constraints on the team during the 2012 offseason.
  10. The Red Sox are going to have the chips to make a mega deal at the deadline to address a need. Right now, they look very strong in all aspects. But, injuries happen. Guys like Cliff Lee and Giancarlo Stanton could be available at the deadline. The Sox have money to take on salaries (Lee) and prospects to give up, if needed, to get a young superstar (Stanton). Seriously. Stanton could hit 50. You put him in that 3 or 4 hole with Ortiz, Pedroia, and Napoli around him? Drool worthy.
  11. dood. his name is ben da boob.
  12. Yup. This team is really good. The three phases: ERA: 3.39 (7th in MLB, 3rd in AL) Runs per Game: 5.12 (3rd in MLB, 3rd in AL) Fielding %: .989 (T-4th in AL and MLB) You get a team that is top 3-4 in the league in every aspect, they're going to win a lot of games. Not to mention the ERA is manipulated by a guy (Aceves) who isn't even on the team right now. To be honest, I had high expectations for this team. I thought they would definitely be a post season team (as noted in my sig), and probably around 88-89 wins. This team is even surprising me as to how good they are. 18-7 right now, we're on a fresh turn of the rotation, and we're going up against the scuffling Jays sans Reyes (who, by the way, destroyed the Sox last time, 8 for 12, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1.776 OPS). Keep rolling.
  13. Remember when we put these in the game thread forum?
  14. The bad news: Felix Doubront. The good news: Brad Peacock
  15. True but replay showed he was safe. Bad base running certainly but he was safe
  16. Been thinking this for a while now... Imagine what Nap does when it warms up!!
  17. True story!!! I fully expected a PS team, but certainly not this good!!
  18. He was actually out. Slid in w his front leg off the ground
  19. Right - I'm just saying he wasn't clicking on all cylinders. He was fighting himself for the first 3 innings and was able to make an adjustment and figure it out, and keep his pitch count down enough to where he could go 7.2. That's something that defines an ace, someone who can make that adjustment and still get deep into games. I'm not saying he had a poor outing. Quite the opposite. I'm saying his outing was excellent and on top of that, he showed he could make adjustments when maybe he was fighting himself a little bit.
  20. I've seen this gif a hundred times for some reason and as soon as you started talking about it, I knew exactly what you were talking about haha.
  21. Did you read anything from last night? He was struggling the first 3 innings with his 2 seamer, fighting himself, and then it clicked in the 4th inning and he cruised.
  22. All we can go by right now is their performance thus far this season. And right now, we've got two bonafide aces on the staff in Lester and Buchholz. Both had off nights the past 2 nights, Lester against the best offense in the AL in terms of runs scored, and both got the W's. Extremely encouraging, and unless something dramatic changes, they could both be in the running for the Cy this year.
