  1. As long as he isn't injured before Pedroia's back. That's all I care about.
  2. I wouldn't mind starting Hall and/or McDonald in the OF. Or Nava. Problem is, Hall is needed at second while J.D. and Cameron happen to go down... Regardless of Ellsbury's bat when he comes back (I think he's rehabbing through like two weeks of minor league games?), he'll be starting as much as possible, if only to get him accustomed to playing again.
  3. @CoachC I don't think the writer of that article did his HW, Kelly hasn't played shortstop since last season and is pitching full time.
  4. Also I realized no one answered your original question, lol. I think the outfield would be fine if it were Nava playing instead of Hermida. Or McDonald starting over Hermida whenever possible. Depending on how long Drew is out, we might be seeing this horrific three-headed monster of Hermida/Patterson/McDonald at some point in the next two weeks, until Ellsbury is back. But I wouldn't want to send a prospect for a two-week rental.
  5. Kelly OR Iglesias. The Sox would never even consider packaging both unless it were a Fielder/Gonzalez type player. I've heard the Iglesias rumor. Maybe J.P. Ricciardi is still in charge of the Blue Jays.
  6. I'm not sure about Buchholz as number 1. His advanced metrics don't support the numbers he's posting. But I've heard that, for some inexplicable reason, he's been going to his fastball and slider more in two-strike counts, instead of his curveball and changeup (which are dirty out pitches). So, perhaps that strikeout rate may be rising given a change in approach (he destroyed the Angels a couple days ago on his changeup); until that happens, I won't be convinced he's a low-3's ace pitcher.
  7. It's too early to project, he hasn't even fully developed his stuff yet (from what I've heard, he now throws two curveballs, one for strikes and one as an out pitch, and one of them is significantly slower than the other). Also, wasn't Joba at one point considered a #1 guy? That didn't turn out so well - projections are just guesstimates and not much more.
  8. If you want to do a "Best Red Sox Picture Ever" contest, I have another nomination... http://outofthebullpen.mlblogs.com/photos/favorite_photos/alcsgame32003pedropusheszimmer.jpg
  9. The more I see terrible defensive plays, the more I appreciate our infield (that is, if Pedroia were playing second).
  10. PAPI SCORCHING THE BASEPATHS
  11. Is he trying to hit Matsui?
  12. I piss my pants every time Bard pitches, he's so damn good now.
  13. Tito really doesn't trust his bullpen. Lackey's nearing 120 pitches.
  14. Papi is so friggin fast.
  15. And Jed Lowrie shows off his clutch hitting abilities. Say what?
  16. Marcoooooooooo Jepsen warming up. Lowrie's gonna have to drive McDonald home off Weaver.
  17. THAT IS HOW YOU HANDLE BUNTS. ARE YOU WATCHING OKAJIMA?
  18. I think Hermida starts because, well, neither he nor Bill Hall are great hitters, but Hermida still hasn't reached his ceiling. He's been really looking overmatched at the plate these few days.
  19. I've never really liked Iannetta, I'm just not sure why. I don't think that his power is as great as it's rated (probably because he plays in Coors) and he's never been able to hit for good average in the big leagues, despite doing so in the minors. Not that I wouldn't mind him as a backup catcher.
  20. Well, Lackey was a bit of a surprise given that the Sox had 3 pitchers with ace potential/ability. If Lackey hadn't arrived, I think we'd be complaining about Bay's cold streak this season.
  21. At this point, I don't think there's anything left to add except a bullpen arm. Unless the Sox wanted to get Ianetta and let Martinez go (not a great option). I don't know whether Theo will trade for bullpen help though, the FO seemed pretty enthused about Bowden and might give him another look.
  22. ********. Drew evaded the tag. Not even close.
  23. If the Sox, hypothetically, score two more runs, would they take out Papelbon for another reliever? I mean, a 5-run lead has been blown before, but surely it can't happen too often.
