  1. Although this still puts them over the luxury tax threshold if they do, according to deadspin.
  2. I'm not sure why Toronto decided to eat his contract without even bothering to see how he looks in ST. And yeah, hell of a nerve to want to start when you're coming back from major injury and you are a huge question mark.
  3. Yes, because the public keep lapping up his movies for some very strange reason. But that's not quite the same thing. But don't go away from my basic point: Adam Sandler isn't given a contract guaranteeing salary for his next ten movies, regardless of how they turn out.
  4. Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl? f***ing serious with this ********?
  5. Why should they be different than almost any other industry? Shouldn't they be paid in line with performance, just like everyone else?
  6. How about signing Machado and making him a starting pitcher?
  7. If DD wants to impress me, he'll sign Harper. I would have to be careful not to break my neck rushing to buy his jersey.
  8. I can't see Machado being a good fit in the clubhouse or with the fans after the slide. We're all just supposed to forget that? Has any GM ever signed his team's worst enemy before? I can't think of any immediately off the top of my head.
  9. Not exactly what I had in mind. That's extra years if the team wants them. By that time, they've dished out maybe five or seven guaranteed years already. I want shorter portions of contracts fully guaranteed. Teams should have a right to protect their investment.
  10. I just finished the original nine "innings" of Ken Burns' Baseball. Really great stuff for the most part, which covers most of the notable people and events. I really enjoyed seeing a lot of old photos and film that I'd never seen before. I hope someone sat Buck O'Neil down for hundreds of hours of recorded stories, because I could listen to him all day.
  11. Found this thread while searching for something else. Hilarious to be arguing over whether Crystal is a true blue Yankees fan or not just because he wore a Mets hat in one movie (and for a specific reason, which is mentioned in the thread). But I remember this stunt. I hated it then, I still hate it now, but I guarantee that in ten or fifteen years, teams will sell ABs in one regular season game to the highest bidder.
  12. Being reported today that LA won't give Harper a long term deal. Ergo, Harper will not be a Dodger. Because some moron's going to give him 8 to 10 years.
  13. Where did these ten year contracts suddenly come from? Didn't anyone learn from the A-Rod debacle?
  14. If players can get opt outs, teams should have them as well.
  15. As if we need another reason to hate him.
  16. Is there finally a ceiling to the madness?
  17. To follow up on my point to Kimmi, she's right about investing $300 mil in one player, but on the other hand, that's where the game is going. If they were to invest in any one player, I think most fans want it to be Betts. I think fans like Kimmi want to put all these very sensible economic handcuffs on the Sox, but it's not a sensible economic game. We know Boston can't keep everyone, but they can't let everyone walk and start over either. I think someone on this board said it a while back, there's no rebuilding in Boston.
  18. Sense in baseball terms, or sense in big market baseball team terms?
  19. Why is there sports on Sunday night, anyway? They must be making coin from it, but given the start times, it's not the optimal time for the millions of viewers on the east coast.
  20. http://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/id/25499595/health-inspection-reports-find-violations-nfl-nhl-nba-mlb-stadiums-cause-foodborne-illness-2018-espn-lines
  21. I realize he's been injured, but they don't want to get a look at him in ST before eating $38mil?
  22. Ambushed by robbers who then stole their possessions. Despicable. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/25474553/luis-valbuena-jose-castillo-killed-car-crash-caused-bandits
  23. You can never have enough pitching. But I don't want Buchholz back.
  24. Never heard of Fancred sports before. Putting aside the merit of Heyman's arguments, this article is riddled with typos. Absolutely appalling lack of editing. https://fancredsports.com/articles/inside-baseball-my-hall-of-fame-ballot-why-bonds
  25. I think you're both right. Self-esteem issues and lack of insight. I think we dodged a bullet on this one.
