  1. I still don't understand what good Selig has done for the game. He's turned the sport into a mockery, ticket prices have skyrocketed, there are several stadium fiasco going on right now, and teams like the Marlins and Astros still exist. Inbalance has been pretty crazy league-wide, and the sport is losing market-share very quickly.
  2. I thought the Atlantic Division was bad, but it looks like the entire East pretty much sucks this year. Out of 15 teams, only 3 are above .500. If the Celtics get Rondo back, they might be able to grab onto that #3 seed. That just seems silly.
  3. Sure, but his -15 UZR/150 in RF was atrocious. They also had Bradley available as depth if they needed someone with the range for CF/RF. I don't think Brentz or Nava will really cut it in RF.
  4. Backup CF has never been the problem. Backup RF is the problem.
  5. Or Dejesus, Granderson, Ellsbury, Davis, Young for that matter. There simply aren't any centerfielders/ rangy rightfielders left available. So they either trade prospects for one -- which I'm sure they don't want to do -- or they're done with outfielders.
  6. The Yankees offered Choo 7/140 after the Ellsbury signing, but ended up going with Beltran. Apparently they still have money to spend.
  7. Apparently the Red Sox don't want another outfielder.
  8. Franklin Gutierrez to the Mariners for 1M. Apparently the Red Sox don't want another outfielder.
  9. Benoit and Rodney are the only closers options left on the market. Both were born in 1977. Seems like there might be a fit there.
  10. 7 million for Thornton seems crazy considering that not only did he miss the playoff roster, he was replaced by Franklin Morales.
  11. Man, I don't know what your problem is with me, but I'm tired of it. Welcome to my ignore list.
  12. As I said, the Red Sox have shot themselves in the foot with similar courses of actions many many many times in the past 5-6 years. I could go back and dig up 6-7 instances of the Red Sox medical staff waiting on surgery, and losing significant on-field times for players.
  13. The Red Sox's medical staff has no credibility. We see it all the time. The Red Sox medical staff really likes the "wait-and-see" approach and after waiting a few months, they end up opting for surgery anyway, and the team loses a player for far longer than if they went with the surgery approach.
  14. Victorino just had thumb surgery. It drives me frigging crazy when players have surgery in the middle of the offseason. Why risk screwing things up for the season? All offseason surgeries should happen in October/November. This should be a universally accepted rule.
  15. Keeping these guys out is ridiculous. Most of them were juicing when there were no rules against juicing or when the league actually encouraged it. Why do we continue to vilify baseball's heroes for Selig's mistakes ? Especially guys who weren't even caught...
  16. This ofcourse is under the assumption that they get a top 10 minor league prospect, plus another one or two top 100 prospects. The article I'm referring to actually mentioned Buchholz as a trade chip that could land Stanton. I understand that is a haul, but how often can you find a pitcher with Buch's potential controlled for 4 more cost-effective years? Trading him to dump salary would be ridiculous, but trading him in a deal that netted Stanton?
  17. Buchholz is one of the most polarizing players on this board. Some of us love him, others appreciate his pitching, but don't expect much when injured. He's the single most frustrating player on the team because he has CY Young talent with grandma china's durability. One of the beat writers was talking about whether the Red Sox should trade him. It is a tough question. If he has just one 170-180 inning season where he pitches to the 2.00 ERA mark for the rest of his contract, the Red Sox will make a deep playoff run in that season. Last time he pitched that well -- 2010 -- the Red Sox were struggling hard in several key areas, and still won tons of games off Buch and Lester's backs.
  18. Sk7,I made a list a while back addressing your point... Most playoff teams have relatively healthy starting rotations. No playoff team had more than 20-30 starts made by their #7 and 8 pitchers. The Tigers had exactly 6 starters in their rotation the entire season last year and they were arguably the best team in baseball last year minus a grand slam. Good teams have healthy pitching.
  19. Thanks Fred/ Bellhorn !
  20. As someone who criticized Francona at the time... Bobby Valentine taught me a great deal about Francona's value. That being said, he lost the control and respect of his clubhouse. You can't be a baseball manager after that.
  21. Fred -- can you send a link to this? I definitely could think of someone to give this to.
  22. Hey -- here's an idea. Alex Gonzalez as the team's utility infielder. He's still floating around somewhere I think.
  23. Robinson Cano, Infante, and now Mark Ellis and Juan Uribe all off the board. I am baffled by the Yankee's approach to their infield.
  24. Gavin Floyd is on the free agent market. He seems like the perfect guy to pickup use as depth to open up Dempster for a trade. The guy is as consistent as you can get ... 4.00 ERA 160+ innings every year.
  25. Ryan Kalish signs with the Cubs. Theo really likes the Red Sox's rejects.
