  1. Fred, you and I both said that he was the key piece they needed to resign. The team has depth at other positions, and is in a position to test out some of their young guys, but 1B was not a place they could fill internally, and Nap was the best chance, and a proven piece.
  2. Fred, he's a Red Sox. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/red-sox-to-re-sign-mike-napoli.html
  3. The question is, who replaces Mo? If Robertson replaces Mo, who replaces Robertson? Balfour, Rodney and Benoit are the only guys left on the market, and all three of them are 37.
  4. Papelbon to NYY, there's an interesting thought. With the dwindling options for top tier relievers, I bet NYY prefers him well over Balfour. Knowing them, they can probably get him for 2/18.
  5. Fred, we got him.
  6. Fred, check the news. We got him!
  7. Gardner, Beltran, Ellsbury, Soriano, Ichiro. Sounds like the Yanks are committed to playing Jeter at shortstop this year. Also, Beltran, Soriano, Ichiro are 37, 38, 40. Ancient.
  8. The Yanks have very little value in their infield. No A-rod, no Cano, and Jeter might not be playing much SS. Who is going to play those positions? Nunez? Ryan? Johnson? Who else is available at 2B/SS/3B?
  9. Hello Talksox. I'm desperate for a win to make it into the playoffs. Need serious help with my RB2. Rashad Jennings, Lamar Miller, or Bobby Rainey.
  10. Wow, I figured he would be getting the full three years. There must be a health-related option for a third year, there has to be.
  11. I feel like Ben has done very well this offseason. He filled the crucial hole at 1B with a proven player in Napoli, he got a reliever with closer-talent and pinpoint control for a reasonable deal, and replaced Salty for low money. Very happy with how things have turned out.
  12. HE'S BACK BABY!!!!! Hell Yes!!!! Offseason over. The Red Sox did what they needed to do!
  13. Stanton again? Really? Really?
  14. Gotta have that physical.
  15. I'm wondering if the Mariners may have been chasing.
  16. I called it in the other thread, 4/50 deal.
  17. Granderson to the Mets. The Yankees just lost two middle-of-the-order bats in the matter of an hour.
  18. The surge from the Ellsbury signing died quick. The Yankees just lost their best player -- a guy who is arguably top 5 in the majors. They'll be happy about it 3-4 years from now, but losing a #3/4 type hitter at a premium position will hurt big time.
  19. Stephen Drew to Yanks 4/50. CAlling it now.
  20. Title says it all. No more pinstripes for this MVP candidate.
  21. If you're trying to build your market like Cano is, losing Seattle as a negotiating chip will hurt him. He quickly went from 225 back to 175.
  22. The Red Sox lost significant value from Nava defensively playing him out of position in right and first, and value from both offensively by platooning them poorly. With another outfielder who can actually play rf/cf the platoon gets around 800 to 850 ops... Not that far off from a magic Christmas land Kemp scenario.
  23. Mariners are out on Cano. Cano's people asked for 240, and when the Mariners compromised with 225, the asking price went up to 250. Sounds like they royally f***ed up to me.
  24. Gomes and Nava as a platoon are worth roughly 3 WAR. Kemp is worth 4-5 WAR IF healthy. If you're going to spend lots of money on an injury prone player, shouldn't the Red Sox at least be trying to fill a position of need ?
  25. I'm convinced Stephen Drew is playing 2B at Yankee Stadium in 2014. It makes so much sense.
