    It seems like it works against the Phillies in every way. If they waited for him to go to free agency, he wouldn't have gone for all that much more (Tex, with his gold gloves went for 22 average), and they could have made sure he stayed healthy the next two years before making that decision. Considering he's lived in Philly for so long, and they've gone to the world series twice, they could have come up with a better contract than that.

    Trading for players costs more than money, it costs prospects, and it seems something the team is short of these days. That's why I suggested Dye, because all he costs is money.

    While you may be right, I don't think its fair to judge this team until the starting pitcher fires up and the team stabilizes. The back end of the bullpen sucks, so what do you think is going to happen when most pitchers leave in the 5th or 6th inning? The rotation is too good to be pitching like it is-- its not like some of us are overly optimistic about them reaching their potentials, its about them playing at career averages.

    I define "few" as two or three, you know, to bridge the gap between minor injuries. And, why Nady? he's not hitting all that great now, and has never been all that great defensively.

    As replacement minor leaguers, they're fine. As the outfield of a team with high expectations they're garbage. As much fun as McDonald was, he had atleast two more chances for walkoffs in the past two or three games and he didn't rise to this occasion. He's like Nick Green, a good story for a few days and maybe a few weeks, but they will need to be replaced eventually.

    I'm not sure if you're talking about Ramon A. Ramirez or something, but Ramon S. Ramirez-- the one currently on the roster-- is a quality pitcher. He had a really bad start to this season, but so has the rest of the bullpen, and so has the rest of the team, and he's seemed much more competent lately. He was untouchable before the all-star break last year, but he fell apart just like most of the 2009 bullpen did, and I'm sure a big part of that was the wear and tear of pitching after the crummy starts from Penny/Smoltz/Tazawa etc. I can understand throwing someone like Ortiz or Daisuke under the bus because its been going on for a long time, but with everyone else I think its worth giving them time.

    his option was 6 million, but toronto only ended up paying 2.7.

    In 2007, Pedroia won rookie of the year. In 2008, Pedroia won mvp. In 2009, he was distracted off the field with his pedophile brother crap, his father getting death threats, his wife having pregnancy complications, but still he had a completely respectable season. In 2010 he's already hit a pile of home runs. Everyone claims he's a huge clubhouse presence, and I don't think we've seen his full potential yet.

    Atchison loads the bases and gets no outs in the inning... and then they replace him with Schoenweiss. Is the bullpen that worn out already?

    He sucked in 2009, and its going to take some time for him to get back to pitching like 2007-2008. If we're giving every single other red sox player a chance to stop sucking, why not MDC?

    And they don't know either. They're not going to put down the prospects and the 140-200 million dollar contract when they have enough of their own talent for cheap. They will have to be absolutely desperate, but I just don't see it.

    He's also only allowed 2 earned runs all season. He's going to be better, he just hasn't pitched healthy in a while.

    1 Year $2.75, with a $2.5 million club option for 2011.

    I'll put money on this one-- if they do trade for A-gon, its going to be a multi-team deal. Hoyer seems to know the farm system too well, and for both of them to get the value they want, there will very likely be a third party involved. So, even if the Padres don't need a closer type like Bard, or whatever piece they're dealing, they'll be able to use what they have.

    The bottom of that lineup scares me. Its not even May yet, and the outfield is composed of bench players.

    The problem wouldn't be what to do with hermaida, but what to do with Drew/Ellsbury/Cameron when they all get back, and there is a fourth big OF bat. What are the odds that Ellsbury is still trade bait?

    Why do you think the Sox would pick up a 90 million dollar contract for a career .800 OPS outfielder? Especially considering Cameron is here next year, and Ellsbury and Drew are not going anywhere. If they didn't pay the money for Holliday, I can't believe that they'll try to pick up Wells. I personally thought he would be involved in a Lowell/Beckett type deal when Halladay was traded, but I don't think 17 good games for Wells would make him any easier for them to get rid of.
