  1. We thought the same thing about Jason Bay.
  2. It doesn't change the fact that this is a team with a core of players in their prime, trailing behind the two best teams in the mlb. This team has enough low-level prospects-- trading those guys would be worth more than the draft picks.
  3. There were a few of us yesterday who wanted to get value from VMart/Beltre while the team can. The team has a lot of young stars, so protecting this team's future is worth far more to me than making the playoffs and losing the first round.
  4. You're just nitpicking now. Bard gets that work simply because he's an elite pitcher. RR got earned a save a few days ago.
  5. Let me copy and paste this. RR has improved significantly as of late. Ramon Ramirez ERA by month April 6.75, May 4.82, June 3.18 July 4.00
  6. I think nowadays its the pitchers who are taking steroids.
  7. There have been dozens of reports that say they're buyers. There have been two reports that they're sellers. If they didn't make a trade when they absolutely needed depth, why would they make one now that everyone is returning? They're sticking with who they have.
  8. Fun fact-- While VMart was on the DL, Dusty Brown, Molina and Cash combined for a grand total of 0 RBIs and 2 runs. Eric Patterson so far has an OPS of .407 versus lefties-- no that's not a typo. There's a reason why Pedroia wants to skip AAA.
  9. Well, I hope Papelbon can win this.
  10. Ortiz is going to be dangerous this month
  11. This rotation is going to be very very dangerous over the next month.
  12. Hey, don't get down on this team now that its finally getting back together. The third base coach is simply incompetent.
  13. Aaaaand VMART IS BACK
  14. Beltre humiliated him on that one.
  15. Haha yeah, I was kind of looking at it from a different angle, but its true.
  16. You know, its funny, the Yankees didn't get Haren or Cliff Lee, but the first team Haren faces is the Sox and Cliff Lee faces them in his second start with the Rangers, and the Yanks avoided Cliff Lee when he was traded the very day they were supposed face him on the Mariners. On another note, this lineup actually looks solid. Now if only they could get rid of Hermida.
  17. If someone can justify having a guy on their roster with a 11.00 ERA in the last two months, they can take him.
  18. Ramon Ramirez ERA by month April 6.75, May 4.82, June 3.18 July 4.00 Atchision ERA by month April 6.10, May 0.00 (only 2.1 innings), June 4.26, July 1.74 Delcarmen ERA by month April 1.74, May 1.84, June 12.96, July 10.13 Papelbon ERA by month April 2.25, May 3.60, June 5.73, July 0.00 Okajima ERA by month April 6.75, May 4.15, June 6.52, July 5.79 I think its pretty clear to me that MDC needs to spend some time in AAA, Okajima needs to be DFAed, and everyone else just needs to straighten themselves out.
  19. If they sell, I would bet its in a way that rebuilds the team. Trading off Beltre and VMart and getting back a Corey Hart or Adam Dunn in the process would keep the stadium filled, and still benefit the organization in the long run.
  20. The one thing the Yankees seriously need right now is bullpen help. If trading Montero gets them to the World Series, would it be worth it?
  21. His 2009 sucked because of his conditioning. That has nothing to do with sabermetrics-- at the end of the year he got back to his usual self when he was finally in shape.
  22. Welcome to Talksox! Unfortunately, the amount of trading chips on this team isn't where you think it is. Reddick and Westmoreland have no trade value right now. They have much more value as part of the Red Sox organization than in any trade-- hopefully they'll improve and impact this organization, but right now teams will not take them as significant pieces in a trade. Buchholz has the potential to be an ace, and Bard has the potential to be a closer, and they're both showing that this season, so they will need to get incredible returns before trading either. There are really only 4 big bats that they could reasonably trade for-- Werth/Hart/Dunn/Fielder, but I don't think trading Buch/Bard for them makes much sense for the long term of the organization.
  23. I know all signs point to Rivera being an elite closer for ten more years... but he will not last forever, and Soria will be under control until 2014. Montero may be close to a sure thing, but 10 million a year goes a long way-- Let me put it into perspective, its the difference between Holliday and Nick Johnson last offseason. Is it worth betting that kind of a difference on a prospect?
  24. You need to give up talking advanced stats with Dice-k. They're completely, utterly irrelevant. Seriously, I know advanced stats are usually great indicators for how a player will perform in the future, but Dice-k is immune to them. Yesterday he had the bases loaded after giving up that one run, and he looked like he was going to explode, but somehow he got through the game with a QS despite not having his best stuff.
  25. Why? Soria is a pretty solid closer, significantly improves their bullpen this year, and gives them the option to move on from Rivera and save tons of money-- realisitically 10 million a year. They will also be getting younger-- moving from a 41 year old closer to a 25 year old one. They would have traded Montero for Lee, but this will give them the financial wiggle room to get him at the end of the season, and make sure they keep him too.
