  1. Where the hell did this kid come from? Kalish never fails to impress me.
  2. Average luck with health? This is JD Drew, Ellsbury, and Cameron. I can not overstate how scary it would be for this team to try to start that trio in the outfield next year, its a disaster waiting to happen.
  3. The problem with Anderson is that this is the second time he's had that learning curve every time he moves up a level. I don't seriously see the Sox bringing him up to Boston, and watching him hit .200 for his first four months.
  4. I think you misinterpret me, so I'll clarify. The most important thing is that they need to get a new oufielder. This has to happen, period. I want to trade Ellsbury, if and only if the team can get value out of him, like pieces for an A-gon/Fielder deal. if that is not possible, keep Ellsbury around, and put Kalish to AAA. Considering the injury risks in the outfield, I don't think he's going to be blocked the full 2011. Plus, I don't think extra development time would do him harm. Cameron and Drew are worth far more on this team than off because the Red Sox can afford their bad contracts a lot more than other teams. I believe that a deal Ellsbury is worth exceeds the value he has on this team.
  5. And young players are likely to have developmental setbacks, especially if they have only had 40 games in AAA. Atleast the team wouldn't be risking paying 8 million to see Cameron hit 20 home runs for the Rangers.
  6. I can easily see Drew having a big 2011. He's the kind of player that will perform better in a contract year. So you'd prefer to drop Cameron who has a great track record-- and has simply had a bad luck season-- over an unproven rookie or an outfielder that STILL doesn't have a hit since May? If they can't get value out of Ellsbury, then it makes more sense to give Kalish more development time in AAA. Between Cameron, Drew, and Ellsbury, one of them will get hurt in 2011, and give Kalish a shot.
  7. I think between Kalish and Ellsbury, only one will be on the roster next year. Cameron and Drew are pretty much here to stay in 2011, because they're worth more on the team than if they're salary dumped. But this outfield has seriously underperformed in 2010, offensively and defensively, and with two big names out there, they will go out and get one of them. They can't take the risk of seeing their outfield being 7/8/9 in their order again.
  8. Whenever Joba comes up, I always want to post the picture of him with the bugs all over his face. I honestly think that ever since he lost that game, he hasn't been the same pitcher.
  9. wow, he just butchered the pronunciation of Shin Soo Choo's name.
  10. Boras is sly, but he's not that unreasonable. A 39th pick does not get the same money as a number 2.
  11. Here are some facts. By signing now, he gets a few benefits. One more year in professional ball. Going to one of a select few teams that he knows will be contending by the time he's in the majors. He gets guaranteed money he might not get if he waits till next year. The Sox will pay him what he's worth.
  12. Ellsbury didn't get a good jump on that ball.
  13. Enrolling to classes doesn't mean a whole lot. Colleges are overenrolling, and making it harder to graduate on time, so sometimes it makes it hard to get into classes you want. Athletes have a particularly hard time because they can't take night classes. They usually get special privileges of enrolling early for courses, but if they don't enroll on time with the other athletes, they lose that privilege because classes fill up. So, in summary, enrolling is for just-in-case scenarios.
  14. That's an odd thing to say. Play Crawford in left, or in center, whatever works.
  15. Oh no, I never meant you didn't find Ellsbury valuable. What I've been saying is that while he's valuable, Crawford does everything he does and more, thus he's not only a proven mlb ready talent, he's also replaceable, something you can't say about any of the other guys on the roster.
  16. Mosely is pitching? They had that off day before the Sox series so that means they probably are giving Hughes and Burnett 6 full days between starts. Cash at catcher really sucks, but there's nothing they can really do-- its a late night game tonite, and a day game tomorrow, so its not good for Vmart. Plus Lowell needs the rest anyway.
  17. I was under the impression that Kalish has reached untouchable status within this organization. Besides him, who has more value? Its not like 3 years isn't a long time for a proven quality major league player. Plus his arbitration cost will be down because of this season.
  18. Ellsbury is simply the most moveable piece for the Sox. No other replaceable piece on this team will get anywhere near his value-- except Bard, but whether he's replaceable is debatable. Throw in possible issues with the team, and he's probably gone. Mike Cameron is going to be much more valuable as 2010 as this team's 4th outfielder than on another team. He's had a rough season, but you can't blame it on regression-- its pretty clear to me that the injury has been the only real issue. It hurt his power a bit, and it makes it harder for him to get to balls, but otherwise he is pretty close to career averages. Cameron hasn't done anything to be in Lugo territory yet. Remember, he has averaged 20+ home runs for his whole career, and that includes 2006-2009.
  19. I said it at the beginning of the season-- Wade/Niemann/Price have very young arms. They already have 400+ innings this season, which is more than all of their combined past seasons in their major league careers. And they've been so good this year, their replacements might not be adequate.
  20. Apparently both Nieman and Davis have shoulder soreness. And Vazquez has a deadarm. I think with the Sox rotation, I don't see why people would continue to believe they're dead.
  21. Well, technically Crawford would be hitting 1st in this lineup with Ellsbury out, and Scutaro would probably be back to 7th. Crawford and Ells both hit lefty, so it shouldn't displace Pedroia.
  22. Wait, are you talking about the 2B Utley that has had the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th best WAR stats for position players the last couple years? I don't think I'm skeptical about Kalish, but that might be pushing it. Bay had injury and defense concerns, and would have pushed them over the edge on payroll. They have a lot more money coming off the books this year, and Drew's contract is about up.
  23. Except that VMart only played for the Red Sox half a season--catching only 33 games-- and its not exactly like they've let him go yet. There are a hundred reasons why it makes more sense for them to have waited out this season. It makes sense to see how healthy he is through the season. Considering the expiring contracts at 3B and DH, it makes no sense to get this guy on long term if he might not be able to catch halfway through the contract. Consider the fact that Vmart hasn't caught more than 100 games since 2007. Was Beltre going to be successful? Were they going to get A-gon afterall? Was Ortiz going to fall off the face of the earth? Would one of their two big-bat prospects strike gold? Vmart could have easily been a logjam waiting to happen, and as we saw with Varitek, sometimes catchers just hit a wall that they can't get past. Salty is a backup plan. There's a chance he's never even going to make it back to the majors.
  24. Personally, I'd like to see Werth in left, Kalish in center, Drew in right, Cameron as the 4th outfielder. Kalish isn't great in center, but I think its the best lineup. Some might argue that Cameron is an expensive 4th outfielder, but when you have Drew on your roster, that's not quite true.
