  1. This game is just like the one where Beckett pitched against the Yankees before his trip to the DL. He just kept getting lit up and lit up, and Francona just sat there chewing his gum, pretending like nothing was happening. It also gives me the feeling that Beckett is going to have a mystery injury, and will be replaced by Doubront in the rotation.
  2. Do they still count if one of the home runs is an inside the park home run?
  3. Get Beckett the f*** out of this game.
  4. The Orioles are up 5-0 in the bottom of the 8th. This looks promising.
  5. Doubront should take over. NOW.
  6. Umm... So the Patriots looked good in their preseason game...
  7. So far, this is an excellent game for the Sox. They're going to kill the Rangers bullpen for the next two games, which is great-- especially because they don't see Wilson or Lee in this series. This is while this team has its only weak link in the rotation out on the mound. Tampa is losing by 5 late in the game, and the Yankees are tied. Hopefully they can get four or five more insurance runs, just in case.
  8. Blast from the past- On April 22, 2007, Manny, Drew, Lowell, and Varitek hit back to back to back to back home runs. Drew is only player in history to accomplish this feat twice, and his brother accomplished it Wednesday. Lowell unfortunately, preferred to take a walk tonite, but he was still a part of history in 2007, in more ways than one.
  9. DREW!!!! Lowell, its your turn.
  10. Oh, they mean OBP.
  11. He's hitting .370?
  12. Atleast when Dice-k got hurt and wasted most of a season, he performed when he came back.
  13. Wait, a player can just block the basepath like that? If he hadn't gotten in the way, Ellsbury could have beaten him to the bag.
  14. Every game is crucial. Its about time Beckett started working for his money.
  15. I think its fair to say that Cleveland is a poorly run franchise. Here's a list of the last two years. Most of the top tier guys were getting 1/6 or 2/12 type deals in 2010. 2010 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-freeagenttrackerbypos111909#free-rp 2009 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-freeagenttrackerbypos111008#free-rp
  16. They're not going to all get a closer job. They're not going to give Tito as many ulcers as the bullpen gave him this year. And I'm sure half of the "good" ones are willing to setup for a contender if they're overpaid, because they're simply not good enough to close in a big market team.
  17. Why not? You might not like the FA market for relievers this year, but there are more than enough options. I'd take Wheeler, Balfour, Fraser, Puts, Downs, Ohman, Soriono, Wagner, Francisco, Greg..... over anyone in this rotation besides Bard and Papelbon.
  18. For 12 million, this team can pick up two very good setup guys for Bard. I think that's better than having an elite setup guy, an average closer, and a weak middle bullpen.
  19. The thing is, they don't need a huge amount of prospects to pan out, they just need a few. Of their young guys, they pretty much only lose one or two a year-- Papelbon 2012, Youk 2013, Lester + Ells 2014, Pedroia+Bard 2015, and Buch is in there somewhere depending on super two status. And that's IF they don't resign them. They're having a hard time finding a big bat from within, but they're fortunate enough to have enough money to get one on the market. I don't see any problems with this team that can't be fixed by money or the guys coming up.
  20. There has been a gap in the Red Sox prospect system since 2008-- in that time, Bard is really the only player who made his debut and made a significant impact. In the next two years, the majority of the team's best prospects will be on the verge of breaking through to the majors, and while I'm pessimistic about most of them, Kalish, Lowrie, Doubront have shown some potential already, and atleast two or three more will work out. Who ever thought that Buchholz would have the best ERA in the AL midway through August? At the beginning of the season I was all ready to giftwrap him to the Padres. I still think they could have made some moves this trade deadline, but the one place this team has succeeded without blame is their farm system.
