  1. He'd break the roster in Minnesota right now.
  2. I do like it. I get so bored of playing the same 4 teams 72 times a year. I would love to get the chance to see players like Pujols and Josh Johnson, and Tim Lincecum play instead of Guthrie and Dan Fuld. However, the way the MLB deals with it is absolutely retarded. I do not use that word lightly, but the simple fact is that it creates a significant unfair advantage for some teams, and not others. There is simply no other word to describe the idiocy of the way it is handled. On top of that, how many AL pitchers hurt themselves while batting during interleague play? I really enjoy interleague play, but some consistency would make it a lot easier for devoted fans to get into it.
  3. Daniel Nava was DFAed at 3:35 pm to free up roster space for Sutton. Sorry Dojji.
  4. Glad you had a good time. My first timer had a last second obligation, so I ended up taking an old friend. When Drew came up to bat, I had a feeling, and I simply said "Drew is going to hit a home run here" (for anyone who knows how I feel about Drew, I'd never say that) and just like that, he puts one right in front of us. We were also right in the mess where the Tufts kids fired off a hundred beachballs--I was actually surprised they didn't stop the game, because there were so many I figured atleast a few would end up in the field. Good times at Fenway!
  5. I'd rather have someone who throws a 84 mph fastball on the corners than a 91 mph fastball dead center. The question is-- can he paint?
  6. Good-- Has Beckett ever pitched this successfully in his career? He looked a little less impressive last night, but his numbers are getting unreal. Bad- I was sitting just behind right field, and Drew looked terrible defensively. He had a bad drop early, and there was another play where he jogged to pick up a fly ball from the ground that he very easily could have gotten under.
  7. May stats Varitek BA .292 Crawford BA .281 Drew BA .202.... but still OBP at .364. It makes a ton of sense right now.
  8. That's the thing. Drew only "sucks" at this point because he's hitting right after 3 great power hitters. Walking when there are men on 2nd and 3rd pisses us off. Walking when there are none on would not. If the team used him for his OBP (which at this point is an incredible .370+) instead of his average (.243) he could be significantly more useful to this team.
  9. You know what, for all the whining about Crawford at 8th... Why on earth is Lowrie still hitting in the 7th spot? I know he's no A-gon, but breaking up the LL of Ortiz/Drew would hurt nothing. Why not have Drew hit 9th and move everyone else up? He's a really solid 9 hole guy right now... tons of OBP and minimal run production, and it evens out the LR balance.
  10. It isn't a matter of him being average. The fact is, his stuff is unbalanced, and he's more like a righty-specialist in the bullpen. Left handed hitters have Pujols numbers against him.
  11. Oh wow. I looked into him, and he has severe Justin-Masterson-Syndrome. Take a look at his splits-- Left-handed batters are hitting him at a .385 average with a 2.54 WHIP. No way is that elite quality pitching. What do you think would happen if he came to Boston? ...bad example. Edit: wayyyy late, Dipre beat me to it haha
  12. With this kind of weather, I'll probably end up being the one sitting there
  13. He pitches for Pittsburgh. That sets off red flags for me.
  14. The difference is huge. Your argument is that "clutch" isn't quantifiable, but look for any study on nervousness, confidence, and their impact on performance, and you'll find that the evidence indicates that different people react differently to pressure and adrenaline, and much more significantly than you're giving credit to.
  15. You sound like someone who has never done anything emotionally demanding in your life. Have you ever played a big spot in a sports game? Had a huge presentation at work/school? Scored with a dime? Some people thrive under pressure, some don't. This is a fact of life.
  16. The good-- Buchholz is looking like an ace again, Salty with a game-winning hit, and the back end of the bullpen gets it done again. The bad-- Phil Coke dominated this lineup? Really!? What is with this team getting pounded by mediocre pitching? The ugly-- The weather. This team will be exhausted if they have to deal with too many rain delays this week. The Cubs aren't coming back to Fenway this year, so the weekend series will probably get forced in.
  17. I'll be at the game tonight. I'm (1-1) so far this year. However, that 1 win came from a Beckett pitched game. WIN!
  18. That game should not have been 1-0. But a win's a win!
  19. Phil Coke only threw 78 pitches through the 7th. I knew that rain delay would be a huge help to this team!
