The thing is, Crawford had a long slump that has affected his stat line. Drew is hitting roughly around where he will all year. Crawford has the edge on counting stats like hits/rbi/runs/steals.... because JD Drew simply doesn't produce big counting stats, he never has.

He had an 11 game hitting streak, then went 2-19 in a span of 5 games with tough pitchers. He's still hitting .300+ in May, so its hard to say he's been slumping.

The difference with Downs was that he was a Type A free agent. They were going to get two elite prospects for him to begin with, so that needed to be their starting point.

Varitek tonight 2 CS, 1-3, HR, 2 RBI Caught an amazing 1 run Beckett start. Hard to argue with that.
