  1. Fun fact: Cordero is the only non-Rivera reliever to actually be worth a big money contract.
  2. And those guys have so far been too expensive for everyone else too. It tells me that Ben is looking, he's working, and until they're going into 2012 with Cook and Miller at the back end of the rotation, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he'll find someone.
  3. I don't think so. This offseason, he has leverage. Next year he has to compete with Hamels, Cain, Greinke, Marcum, Floyd, Haren, E. Santana, Shields, Baker, Sanchez, Lewis. Half of those players will be off the market by 2013, but even if half of them are still available, would you really give 50 million to Jackson, when those options are available?
  4. I only looked 5 deep into the bullpen. Bard/Mel/Bail/Ace/Morales makes a pretty beautiful pen-- they can fill in the other slots as necessary.
  5. This is the setup that I like the most so far. If Doubront is healthy enough to start, he will be fine as a #5 option. Elite rotation, elite lineup, elite defense, elite bullpen. If only these guys could stay healthy...
  6. If the Red Sox don't get another starting pitcher, I will join you in the "let's all panic!!!!" crowd. Seriously, it is a huge need, and I just can't seriously think they spent 20 mill this offseason, and completely disregarded what they simply could not do without.
  7. Hey King...
  8. The Nats are bidding against themselves at this point.
  9. It would have been unwise for the Red Sox to pay 8-10 million on a reliever when they still need to fill a spot in their rotation.
  10. From my estimations, this team is 1-2 million under currently. If they go over the cap, they will likely exercise Lackey's option, which will actually save them about 1.2 million.
  11. I wrote a post about this yesterday. The Red Sox don't have the money to give him a 15 million dollar deal. They're probably budgeting 8-10 million, and hoping that will be enough to land one of Kuroda/Oswalt/Madson. That is on the low end of what those guys want, but not completely out of the question-- that's where lies the conflict. The front office needs to get one of those guys to accept a contract of that size. There would be absolutely, and utterly no way that they would be in the running for any of those pitchers unless they had atleast 8 million to spend. No way.
  12. Its actually pretty common for a free agent to check out a potential team's fansites, in order to figure out what the fans are like, and what the environment will be like before he makes a decision. Especially the ones who don't speak English very well
  13. I see no reason why he couldn't hit to a .750 OPS every year. There are so many below average defensive catchers that when you see an above average one that still has time to grow, he's bound to do good things for a team.
  14. Dear Kuroda, Please come to Boston Sincerely, your pal Pal.
  15. The real problem is that they traded away their catcher of the future in Federowicz.
  16. Fortunately, the Red Sox medical team has gone back to the third world country they got their M.D.'s from.
  17. Just checked up on it. He was cleared to start working out again in October. I see no reason why he couldn't be healthy by April.
  18. He's averaged 30 starts per season throughout his career. "Relatively healthy" acknowledges the shoulder, but also points to the fact that he's usually pretty good to make his starts.
  19. Maholm averages a 4.30 ERA, 180 innings per season, he's 29 years old, relatively healthy, and he can probably be had for 2/10. He'll probably end up with a 4.70-5.00 ERA in Boston... but if he can throw innings, I could care less at 5 million.
