    I think because of what we saw last year, we're overly concerned with his regression. His strikeouts may be down this year, but so are his walks. And with that, he's pitching more innings per game than in any other season. I just don't think its worth dumping him unless they get a top 5 pitching prospect + another top 100 guy. Besides David Price and Cliff Lee, there won't be anyone remotely close to his talent level available in the forseable future.

    Its a shame Lackey can't pitch as well at the end of innings as he has been at the beginning of innings. Glad to see him fighting through a bad night though.

    Agreed. But look at this inning... Only one baserunner, and 25 pitches. That's 6+ pitches per batter.

    If he's healthy and productive, they'll give him a qualifying offer, which hurts his chances to sign with other teams. If he doesn't take the 1/15, they'll probably get him on a two year deal.

    After taking advantage of Cobb in the first inning, he's really settled down. The Red Sox noticed this trend, and have been taking more pitches to try to get him out of the game. I've noticed the last several batters take somewhere between 5-7 pitches a piece.

    I'm not going to go into a thorough player analysis with him, but if I know a one-liner stat off the top of my head, I'll still throw it out there.

    The worst part about NESN commercials is that when they have time to fill, they double/quadrupl up on commercials. On multiple occasions I've seen 4x of the same comcast commercial in a row.

    I really enjoyed when Tom Caron was in the booth with Don. He has a lot more personality than some of the drubs that have been in here lately.

    Ever since he got his fat contract, Ortiz has been a perfect citizen in Boston See? All it took was a 30 million dollar check to quiet him.

    I want to mention it again -- Doubront only had one bad start. The other bad game was garbage time relief innings after Webster gave up 8 runs. Doubront probably had no opportunity to do his full pre-game warmups. The other thing to mention about Doubront is that he's been consistently healthy for the first time in his MLB career. In the past he's been very hurt, and he's had plenty of other issues, so we have no idea how his arm is going to respond after the full year in the rotation in 2012.

    The problem is there aren't any pitchers available who are even remotely close to his value on the free agent market in 2014. Garza, Johnson, Burnett, Hughes and Feldman won't be able to fill his innings. If the Red Sox trade for a pitcher, they hurt their future by trading away pitching prospects. I doubt they make the playoffs in 2014 without him. Its a no-win situation. Signing him 6+ years will end up being a mistake, but trading him before 2014 will also hurt the team. Maybe waiting till the 2014 deadline makes the most sense-- a desperate NL team might be willing to give two top 100s for him.

    Way to go Red Sox!!! Teams in recent years would not have even bothered down 9-2 in the 9th, but they put up a pile of runs on the board, and now the Angel's closer is unavailable for the night game. That could turn into a big deal later tonight.

    The game isn't even over yet... that's about as bad mojo as you get.

    The Red Sox will be playing three games in a span of 27 hours. You can't waste Bailey and company on the 7th inning of the first game. Morales made a good deal of sense based on the situation. I just don't like how they handled the situation with him on the mound. Either leave him in and let him lose the game for the team but conserve innings, or take him out and try to win. Farrell left him in, putting the Angels up 7-2, but then decided to pull him and hurt the bullpen. Essentially, Farrell chose the worst of both options.

    Crazy, and now the Angels are wasting Scott Downs? That'll come back and bite them in game 2.

    So you take Morales out, and put Mortensen in? Why?

    Why even take Morales out at this point? Its a double header, let him soak up some innings atleast.

    Amica pitch zone is very off today. Might not be calibrated correctly today, because the umpire is actually get calls right that Amica is not.

    Hopefully Doubs won't regret pitching around the #9 hitter to get to Trout, Hamilton, Pujols.

    Nick Cafardo's perspective on MLB agents is interesting atleast. He basically just said that writers needs to be an earpiece for them in order to get information.
