  1. If the Red Sox have 5 series in a row with the Twins, White Sox, Astros, and Mariners, I bet they would have won 9 of 10 too.
  2. They'd probably prefer selling high on Ranaudo than low on Barnes, IMO.
  3. Peavy + Crain would solve a lot of problems. It would also opens up some of the AAA arms to move to the bullpen. The question is if the White Sox are willing to accept prospects from the second-tier pool of guys like Britton, Workman, Wilson, and Brentz.
  4. Peavy is the guy. The Sox are watching his start today. With 22 million left on his contract the next two years and injury history, he probably prices himself out for many teams, while possibly still being a very good arm.
  5. Henry Owens started a no-hitter in the minors, going 6+, with the relievers finishing up the job. I'd add him to the untouchable list... he seems to impress and impress and impress.
  6. Lyon had a 3.00 ERA, with a 1.20 WHIP for Houston and Toronto last year. He's had a bad year so far, but you never know what could happen. There is a difference between a bad garbage time pitcher, and a good garbage time pitcher, and if he turns into the later, that's still something.
  7. Selling teams are still listening to offers. They don't get desperate until near the deadline when they have all the final offers. It doesn't make sense to overpay in order to get one more week out of a reliever.
  8. I don't know much about Lyon, but he does have 79 career saves. If they get lucky maybe he'll end up as a low leverage reliever?
  9. I'm very surprised they haven't even considered the blow-it-up-option. Cano would bring in a top 20 prospect, easy. Hughes, Granderson could yield some returns as well. They also might want to consider trading Sabathia, if they forsee his production dropping... the guy can't do this forever, can he?
  10. Not sure where else to put this, but the Sox are in talks with Dustin Pedroia on an extension. This one is a no-brainer. Get it done, I don't care if it takes Cano money -- and this is coming from a guy who practically never advocates long term signings.
  11. Bogaertz needs to start getting some work in at 3B then. The Red Sox seem very reluctant to move him over.
  12. Doubront has looked very good against good offenses. If he can pitch around Cano, it should be a fun game.
  13. Putting a square peg in a round hole? That's exactly what they're doing by playing Iglesias at 3B. Look over the stats again. Iglesias's UZR this year is equally as bad as Young at 3B. We can't expect him to outhit his poor 3B defense for the rest of the season.
  14. Someone start the gamethread!!!! Edit: Someone with good mojo!
  15. The problem with Drew is that he's played shortstop his entire career, and we have no idea how he'd respond to moving to 3B. Take Iggy for example, it hasn't been a smooth transition. Iglesias at 3B : -4.1 UZR -31.9 UZR/150 Iglesias at SS : 2.0 UZR 14.9 UZR/150 Iglesias is rotting at 3B. The baseball gods will punish the Red Sox if Iggy's glove isn't playing at shortstop.
  16. Even if XB starts producing immediately, the "problem" is that the Red Sox have three shortstops and no third baseman. Playing Iggy at 3B is a mistake.
  17. Calling him a stopgap bench warmer isn't exactly a love affair. I also think that Iglesias should absolute get priority over him. The production the Sox are getting from Drew/Holt/Middlebrooks isn't quite as valuable as Young's .350 OBP.
  18. You can't get an All Star / GG type on a one year deal to hold down the fort for a trio of top corner infield prospects. Young would be a stopgap, with world series experience, average production and positional versatility. Best case scenario, he ends up sitting on the bench at 2014's end for $5 million.
  19. It'll be interesting to see how the Red Sox deal with draft picks and big free agents this year. If they stay where they are in the standings, a #28 draft pick might be not much more valuable than Ellsbury's compensation pick, and they'll just dive into free agency. Or, maybe they'll put a big offer out for Garza since he probably won't even cost a draft pick. Michael Young could also be worthwhile because he fills two different holes for the Red Sox, first and third.
  20. He is a #4-5 starter at best, and I doubt anyone believes he's much better than that. But a cost controlled #4 starter is still a valuable commodity to teams in rebuilding mode. Workman won't bring back Garza, but he might be a pretty solid trade piece -- because his skill set seems expendable.
  21. Workman's first start in the majors, and he throws 6+ no hit innings. The guy's value must be as high as it ever will be right now... wonder what some sucker GM would give for him.
  22. LAVARNWAY WITH THE CLUTCH THROW! Huge huge out.
  23. Another day, another terrible call by an umpire.
  24. If Farrell had taken out Workman, and the bullpen allowed a run, people would be asking why he took him out when he had been was so effective earlier. Up to that point, he had only allowed one walk, and one single.
