  1. Doesn't the Fielding category factor Defense? It was just a suggestion for pre-season rankings, as you mentioned are virtually meaningless. The fact that 8 different teams were in 1st while every team was in the bottom 5 lacks consistency. :dunno:
  2. Just throwing this out there as a suggestion, what if you were to use Rotisserie scoring from the previous years season stats to determine pre-season power rankings? Say you are in a 12-team league, the team with the most home runs will receive 12 points, the team with the second most will receive 11 points, etc. In the case of a tie, each team involved receives an average of the total points due—i.e., in the above example, if two teams were tied for first in homers, each would receive 11.5 points [(12 + 11) / 2 = 11.5]. So, if you were playing in a league with 12 teams and 12 scoring categories, the lowest point total possible is 12 [12 * 1 = 12] and the highest is 144 [12 * 12 = 144].
  3. Indeed, these power rankings results could have been picked randomly from a hat with the same results. lol
  4. Brian Cashman mentioned a few things at WFAN’s annual “Breakfast with a Champion” this morning. Cashman said he’ll be surprised if Derek Jeter sticks at shortstop during all four years of his contract. He sees the Captain winding up in the outfield. Cashman acknowledged that Joba Chamberlain has not been the same since his injury in Texas in 2008. It’s the first time anyone involved with the team has publicly discussed the issue even though it was quite obvious. Once again, he said there’s no chance Joba will start. Still nothing new on Andy Pettitte, but Cashman did confirm that the lefty is working out to remain in baseball shape. Cash said his best case rotation scenario at this point has Andy coming back and Ivan Nova sliding down into the fifth starter’s spot. Jorge Posada is the full-time designated hitter, and the starting catcher’s job will be an open competition in Spring Training
  5. Yeah its rather interesting more then half of the voters has a different view of whom the winner will be.
  6. I remember the situation exactly, the reason the Yankees ultimately passed on Haren is because they would've had to pay him 12.75 million next two years, which would've forced them to pass on Lee during FA. Had the Yankees known Lee was going to reject their offer, I'm sure Haren would be in pinstripes. Can't say I blame them for opting to wait for Lee.
  7. No surprise, Melo never wanted to go to NJ to begin with, if he got traded to them he wouldn't have signed an extension. His heart is set on joining Amare Stoudemire and the Knicks.
  8. I suppose thats fine then as long as any trades that are actually veto worthy are permitted to pass.
  9. Isn't the Veto option in place to guard against lopsided trades?
  10. Flynnatic is online, he should make his picks
  11. Rivera apparently had quite a bit to do with the Soriano signing
  12. Previous documents from the bond financing revealed that the Yankees earned just $52 million in ticket and suite revenues in 1997. By 2005, ticket and suite revenue had reached $157 million. By the time the team had financed the bonds in 2007, projections for ticket and suite revenue for the first full season in Yankee Stadium was $253 million. Its unknown exactly how much the team profited due a variety of line items, which are not public, including how much they were required to pay in revenue sharing, but industry insiders tell CNBC that the Yankees' total business now approaches $600 million in annual revenues. http://www.cnbc.com/id/38046122 I don't see how the increase in payroll and luxury taxes are going to affect this organization
  13. They do have a magic well of money, Yankees annual revenues are in the neighbourhood of $600 million.
  14. Yankees payroll is currently at 180m, which leaves them with another 20m to spend. I'm sure Burnett will rebound this year too and put up decent numbers, last year his mind wasn't in the game going through a divorce. I'm willing to bet by June ether Pettitte will come back for half a season or they make a trade before the deadline. Problem solved.
  15. With no elite starter available and with Joakim Soria off limits in Kansas City, Soriano was the right move.
  16. After missing out on Lee, Cashman said "Plan B is patience", I wouldn't be surprised if they trade for a quality pitcher around the trade deadline when teams that are out of it are listening to offers.
  17. I hope not, We all know how that worked out. Plus I believe the Yankees have ruled out using Chamberlain as a starting pitcher in 2011 because his pitches have greater velocity when he pitches in relief.
  18. High price tag but certainly worth it to have Soriano lock down the 8th and Rivera in the 9th, I wouldn't expect more then a couple blown saves between those two.
  19. I remember alot of talk about Lee Smith being a “future hall of famer” when he was the leader in all-time saves, and he didn’t even get a sniff. Just saying… Mariano has the lowest Era, Highest ERA+, second highest save percentage, second highest number of career saves, has dominated his position for longer than any other closer in the relatively short history of the position. Rivera’s Career ERA is 13th all time. Hoffman’s is 127th Rivera has the best ERA of any pitcher born after 1900. He is the very definition of “dominant closer”.
  20. Rivera will pass Hoffman; he's trailing by only 42 saves, the question is if it will be this year or next.
  21. I'd like to drop Jason Vargas from my roster
  22. Travis Wood SP Logan Morrison 1B/LF
