  1. LOL What Bama collectively sounded like after that return: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Od3tJjRxzQ
  2. Hell yeah. Went to the bar, had a few beers, talked a little smack and then when Shane hit the jack I celebrated (loudly) and left on a high note. What a memorable game.
  3. It doesn't demean that accomplishment at all. It says that they step up in situations that even other great big league hitters fail to show up in.
  4. Anyways, if we use OPS to determine how good a hitter is, then using OPS with RISP should determine how good they are in situations with runners in scoring position. Literally, that's what it means. I don't get how this is becoming some big technicality argument where everything has to be a "repeatable skill". It's just hitting under a different circumstance, and there's really no need to overanalyze it with some ******** you read on FanGraphs.
  5. They don't reinforce the rule, they challenge the rule. If it reinforced the rule, there would have to be actual proof that clutch doesn't exist. Feel free to come up with this proof.
  6. Except that some players actually do perform significantly better, and Gomes is one of them. These are actual people with nerves and personalities, not robots that all do things the same way. Your argument is based entirely on the fact that you can't quantify clutch, so therefore it could easily just be coincidental. It could be, but just the same it could easily it might not be the case. Why does Jason Kubel hit .400 with the bases loaded? Why is Carlos Beltran's postseason OPS 300 points higher than his lifetime regular season OPS? I don't know, but I miss having Jason Kubel in the middle of my teams lineup, and I'd love to have Carlos Beltran come October.
  7. The sample size is over a season worth of ABs. While it isn't a repeatable skill, there's no doubt it exists. Certain players perform above their skill levels (Even great players) and some play below. The problem with your argument is that you want this to be about improved skill in a given situation, as if said player just "hulked up". That's not the case, but sure, by all means keep thinking that.
  8. As for the "magically get better with RISP" comment, I take it you don't buy into clutch? It's there. Certain players/people just perform better under pressure.
  9. .268/.379/.472 lifetime with RISP. I sure do like me some players who excel when there's runs to be driven in.
  10. Who said anything about skills? And if hitting well with RISP isn't a skill, I don't know what is.
  11. Hope he's just a bunch of hype, because the Twins look like they're about to be finishing in last if he's actually as good as Cespedes claims.
  12. He's always been a good situational hitter bro.
  13. Nava's an on base guy, and Gomes is a good situational bat (4/8 with a GS this season with the bases loaded, 3/8 with 4 walks and a HR with runners on 2nd and 3rd, and a 135 OPS+ with runners on base this season). Neither one's a full time player, but Nava helps the team more consistently than Gomes does.
  14. http://www.nfl.com/videos/new-england-patriots/0ap2000000263628/Is-this-the-best-Tom-Brady-ever-has-played I don't think this is the best he's played. He's actually looked human this year unlike in the past 5 or so. I do think this is the best the Patriots have looked as a team in a while though.
  15. Yes, many of thier game win by luck.
  16. But then he wouldn't have been able to use steroids.
  17. Clerks II sucks.
  18. It was a good prediction. Kind of obvious that Napoli was going to start killing the ball, he always gets hot late in the season.
  19. Also http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/23516472/koji-uehara-completes-hidden-perfect-game-on-friday-night Don't know if anyone posted this. Sick.
  20. It's never really "in the bag" until the Rays and Yanks are mathematically eliminated, but realistically the race right now is for 2nd place. The Sox have been playing their best lately, and at the right time. They've won a lot of tough games and they look nothing like the 2011 team did going through September. I think they got the division, and I think they've gotta be the favs to win the WS at this point. Very solid rotation that's only going to get better when Buch's back, the bullpen usually has it under control, and Koji shuts it down every time he goes out. Mike Napoli is looking like he's one of the best hitters in baseball again, and when he gets hot, he usually doesn't cool off until the season's over. Could easily see him having a monster postseason like he did with Texas a few years ago.
  21. You have to go deep with Fister. It's the only way.
  22. That's predictable, the Pats just didn't need him but someone's definitely going to sign him, probably Jacksonville.
  23. It wasn't a one performance thing, he performed well as a whole. He made enough plays to keep them in the games, and the defense was good enough to get him wins. We'll see what he's got, I'd like to see the Patriots keep him.
