    when a starter doesn't do the job, it's hard to win. they throw out 3-4 pitchers--1 or 2 bound to get hit.

    This division is a dogfight. Four teams. And it's about pitching. They better get off their tails and try to improve the rotation. Especially with Buchholz missing every other start and Lester having his problems. The other 3 guys are so-so. Plus they haven't replaced Hanrahan.

    The Angels have been hurt by Weaver going down. They'll be better if he can get back to form. It's clear, though, they continue to underspend on pitching. Pujols was a horrible signing--worse than Hamilton. The guy is declining--evident even when he was in St Louis. It was a reckless signing for 10 years. A waste of all that TV money.

    A lot of media people think Ells will get dealt. Partly because Bradley is heir apparent who looks ready, and partly because Ells' agent is the shark Boras. Bradley, by the way, also has Boras as his agent, but he is protected until 2019 or thereabouts.

    Iggy is showing the potential to be a .250 hitting all world defensive SS that so many championship teams have had in the past. Indeed, may have to have.

    Iggy will have to stay sharp as a utility player. He will be their regular SS next year--or earlier if Drew gets dealt. Or 3B if Middlebrooks continues to hit .200. The FO plays the money, and that's how it is. After all, they spent it, and have to justify it.Let's face it, this is not one of the better FOs in the majors, though they've improved this year by adding a few people.

    Dempster needs 10 runs to win. Lackey has been better. Hard to see Lee traded, but they have the ponies to get him. The Yankees would give the moon for him. The other night, Farrell lost a game because he threw Morales and Mortenson into a high leverage situation--a mistake. Sometimes you need your best an inning or so earlier than usual. Mortenson continues to lead a charmed life. The man without an option.

    The FO seems to have a bug up their ass about Iggy playing SS. Drew should be platooned with Iggy against lefthanders. Forget about egos--put the best team out there.

    The game was close when Doubront left. Tough spot for Morales first appearance. Mortenson didn't belong there. Farrell should have gone with more reliable relievers in the 7th. Might have won the game. Can't have relievers taking you out of a close game. Mortenson really does suck. They are losing games with that guy just because he's out of options? Get real. It's about winning. Iggy continues to amaze. 2 hits and a walk.

    Likely scenario is Iggy sticks as IF backup and Ciriaco gets optioned or DFAd. The kid is getting on base and is rock solid at 2B, 3B and SS. He isn't going anywhere. They have big money in him, and he gives them versatility. Ultimately, maybe Drew gets dealt. Middlebrooks still has a lot to prove. He has been making too many outs. Maybe got a bit ahead of himself.
