  1. Pedey already is the Captain. It's about time the front office made it official. Pedey sets the best example for team play, which the Sox could use at times. I've heard that criticism.
  2. The Globe is running a story saying Ricciardi, Alderson's assitant, was seen scouting the Portland Sea Dogs in Maine last night. That could mean the Mets are looking at AA prospects for Beltran. They also added Reyes as a possibility, though Reyes would command more than AA prospects. This shows the Red Sox are actively pursuing Beltran--in my view. And are willing to give up AA level prospects. It tells me 1) Beltran wants to play in Boston, and 2) maybe the Mets would prefer to deal Beltran away from the Phillies and the Braves. It also gives the Sox an option to extend Beltran next year as a part-time outfielder and DH option in case Papi becomes too expensive. It looks to me Beltran is very much in the picture.
  3. HGH is a non-steroid.Actually a natural hormone. I don't believe it can be tested for. I suspect the use of drug enhancers in sports is way ahead of their detection methods. I also think MLB's testing is not very transparent.I read somewhere the Players Association may be tipping off players on when they are to be tested. It's a muddy area.
  4. What's happening in the media is Yankee lust is driving his price up.
  5. Pence is a different ballgame. You start talking serious prospects there.
  6. Salty has looked good behind the plate lately when I've seen him. If he can hit .250 and play decent defense, he should be OK. He's a big guy and should be durable. Also looks in shape.
  7. He's taking the same stuff I am.
  8. I didn't see this game. how was Miller? The statline looks like a typical young lefty wild but hard to hit. The worst they can do with him is make him a bullpen stopper.
  9. I don't think Ellsbury will be going anywhere if he continues to play the way he has lately. They will make him an offer he can't refuse if they think he's worth it. He's still a young guy. This isn't a Johnny Damon situation.
  10. I'm beginning to envy that brand of Wheaties Ellsbury is eating.
  11. They are saying the Phillies are one of the frontrunners for Beltran, but I don't know if the Mets want to deal Beltran to their division rivals. More likely, they want to deal him elsewhere--like to Boston. But the Red Sox are sitting pretty right now, and don't want to give up any major prospects for him. Too bad Reddick is looking so good, in a way. Maybe looking TOO good. Theo is in a predicament--does he really need anybody? I say YES. That lineup imbalance will haunt them in the postseason--especially against the Phillies. They need another RHd bat in that lineup against lefties. Beltran fits. But they don't want to give up anything for what could be a short term fix. Longer term, it forces them into a decision about Ortiz--since Beltran would make a nice switch-hitting DH who could come cheaper than Papi. The downside is Beltran's knees could go at any time.
  12. I get the impression a lot of these injuries are caused because some of these guys are (or were) not in shape. Is Jenks in shape? LOL. Buchholz is skinny-it's hard to tell. Lackey? Drew? Crawford? Beckett is in shape-for sure. He had something to prove. Ellsbury, too. Plus those guys in contract years. They always seem to be in shape for the $$.
  13. Iglesias looked pretty good in Boston. I wouldn't call that a step back. Look at Reddick. He didn't hit much better in Pawtucket. Iglesias is already an all-star defensively.
  14. Ditto, as I said. Francouer hit cleanup last night for KC. They might overvalue him, which would kill any deal. He's a platoon player on good teams.
  15. Reddick and Kalish will battle it out next year for RF. Longer term, CF may become open for Kalish or Crawford if Ellsbury leaves. Reddick has hit well before in Boston, and may be for real. Some guys are just more motivated playing in the Show. You stay with this kid. He's playing well. The Sox have some depth in the OF long term. They should not piss it away for a Beltran or other quick fix.
  16. How about a Pedey appreciation thread? The unnamed Captain of the Red Sox.
  17. The infamous Klapisch. He once printed the Red Sox "begged" the Rangers to deal ARod to them, after they had backed out of a deal and the Yankees jumped in. Typical NY media. That's why you can't believe Heyman and even Olney.
  18. Why would the Cubbies trade their best player? The Cubbies are a BIG MARKET TEAM. Does their FO suck or what?
  19. Struck out the side. Morales was good as a rookie until he got hurt. He's coming around again his 2nd year after injury. This kid is better than Miller.
  20. Tito up to his old tricks trying to find a pitcher they can hit.
