  1. Yeah. You gotta beat the bad teams. The Yankees do that a lot better. The thing that is killing the Sox is the lack of a solid #3 starter. Lackey, Wake and Miller are crap. Buchholz screwed the pooch getting hurt.
  2. Are they pitching Wake against NY instead of Bedard? More hubris? I'm sure the Yankees are happy about that.
  3. You know, these setup guys and closers don't like to come in games without a lead. They are all a bunch of spoiled brats. That Bogart coach at 3B has his head up his ass. But that's par for Red Sox 3B coaches.
  4. 5 runs in 6? that's typical for a $15 million dollar pitcher.
  5. Go down the lineup and look at the production of the Red Sox LHd batters against LHP. The production numbers are way down per at bat. There's a good reason why they face a lot of LHd pitching.
  6. Current leading story on Bedard at the Globe: "when healthy, Bedard is a good pitcher, not a great one." Why all this downplaying of Bedard? Well, Bedard does not like the media. that's #1. And then you have the NY factor: what would they be saying if the Yankees got Bedard? My guess is they wouldn't be saying the same thing.
  7. Just listened to Mazz and Chad Finn on Globe video. Mazz was a good deal more positive about Bedard than his column. They said his relationship with his teammates and the fans was far more important than his relationship with the media (maybe Mazz saw my post. you never know). Also said Bedard can be good if he's healthy, and all they need from him is 6 innings and 3 runs or less. You can't rely on that from their current guys except from Lester and Beckett. Bedard also gives them another lefty starter against the Yankees--especially in Yankees stadium. He and Lester get the call this weekend.
  8. Cashman sure disappointed Heyman. I'm surprised they didn't get Jimenez. George would have never allowed that to happen.
  9. If I were the GM, I would be telling Tito to abandon his 7-run/minimum pitch count philosophy with his starting pitchers, and get 'em out of the game quicker when they don't have their stuff. That means Lackey and Wakefield, who are on again, off again every other game, like a light switch. Forget about Miller. He belongs in the bullpen doing mid-relief. That's the way new pitchers USED to break in, to establish their confidence.
  10. Mazz just came out with one of those negative pronouncements about Bedard. "a gamble". "injury history." "negative with media." The latter is important only to the media. Everybody else cares only about how the guy pitches. But that's the media. Anybody's a gamble. And most veteran pitchers have an injury history. The most important thing is what a pitcher has done lately. And Bedard was very good the first half until he tweaked his knee. And his first start back showed he still has his stuff. He should be better his next start. The Red Sox have shown they have the patience and knowhow with pitchers. I think they overuse the pitch count machine with starters in games (without much medical foundation, by the way), and wear out their relief pitchers with too many 1 inning appearances. No, they aren't much different from everybody else. That's why they need 12-13 pitchers these days. But they are way down in pitching stats in the League, and should ask themselves if they are doing things right. Re Bedard, A lot of this naysay about him could be media sour grapes about the Yankees not getting him. Even Mazz seems obligated to join the bandwagon. Welcome to the Boston media, Erik.
  11. Palumalu of the Steelers had this operation as a kid. That should be an inspiration.
  12. The Globe doesn't know anything about Fields. Elsewhere, I found: He was drafted by Seattle no.20 overall in 08. Had a good record in AA ball, 2-1, 2.xx era 9 games in AAA 6.xx era. U Georgia closer. looks like he needs seasoning but still has potential. not a bad pickup. No sense in jumping to conclusions about this kid after 9 games in AAA.
  13. You know closers. You just throw a lot of heat for one inning. But you gotta have the heat. They throw enough practice pitches, they have a good pitching coach, they find the plate. But you can't teach the heat.
  14. That Yankee dick-licker Heyman came on MLB.com and said the Red Sox were the big losers in the trading, because Bedard 'doesn't fit the Red Sox" and he was bombed his last start. What a dickhead Yankee apologist he is. Rosenthal, a bit more objective, came on later and said the Yankees were the big losers--for obvious reasons. They better hope that angel dust Colon is taking lasts the whole season. Not to mention Garcia. The great overachievers. I think the winners were the Phillies and the Rangers. The Red Sox did damn good, too--considering they didn't give up any top prospects like some of the other teams did. Take a look at that Bedard deal. That's Theo at his best. They clearly had done a lot of groundwork on the deal with the Dodgers trying to get Kuroda. When Kuroda backed out, they had the pieces to give the Dodgers, who in turn had a piece (Robinson) to give Seattle, which was looking for offense. So Seattle gets two minor league sluggers, Robinson and the Asian guy (name?) from the Sox, and bingo, the Sox have Bedard. And somehow, a 95 mph U. Georgia closer , #1 draft choice, slips in their package, too. I don't know where he came from. If you've followed Bedard, you know he has pitched well this year, then tweaked his knee and was out a month. Then came back and showed he still has it. I feel pretty confident going into the playoffs with Lester-1, Beckett-2, Bedard-3. hopefully Buchholz there, too.
  15. watching Hunter Pence, I think the Sox made a big mistake not dealing for him and making him the right fielder. Looks like a hell of a player to me. He would have balanced that lineup perfectly. They have too many lhd hitters in the OF.
  16. Good deal for the Sox. they didn't give up any of their best prospects, and got a lefty #3 starter who should be effective against NY. They also got a kid closer who is a former #1 draft pick. Maybe a setup guy next year if Pap walks. All the good teams are stacking up on LHd starters--Texas and Philly. NY will have that Mexican kid lefty starting against the Red Sox sooner than you think. Lester and Bedard--and maybe Miller--give the Red Sox good cover against the Yankees.
  17. Those dopes at MLB.com still haven't explained the deal. Fields is a closer from U Georgia. #1 draft pick.
  18. Gammons just said he doesn't know which Josh Fields it is.
  19. just heard they got Bedard on MLB.com. posted it in game thread.
  20. They got Bedard. On MLB.com right now.
  21. Miller is warmed over Wakefield. To win, you have to score 6-8 runs. And they can't do that every game. Hey, THEY GOT BEDARD!
  22. Seattle just said to Theo: "For the 98th time, Theo, FELIX ... NO!
