  1. Yeah. It's time for Theo to stop dicking around, trying to preserve his minor leaguers, and get some pitching to replace that rag-tag end of the rotation. The Phillies have vaulted ahead of the Red Sox and the Yankees by getting Pence--an all-star player who would have looked good in RF in Boston, and filled a need for a solid RHd bat. What's ennerving is the Phillies didn't give up much to get him. Less than what the Red Sox have around to give. They almost got him by default, though the Braves must have been in there somewhere.
  2. The news says Kuroda wants to stay in LA. Bedard will certainly be dealt. Jiminez will be dealt if the price is right. Though I think the Rockies are nuts to deal him. he's having a typical sophomore blues year. Harden? Haven't heard much. Watch Ramon Hernandez--Reds catcher--get dealt. I'd like to see them come out of this with a RHd role hitter/outfielder, and one or two starters.
  3. Good outing for the Sox. bad outing for Seattle. Now they can't ask the world for him. I'd get him for a lower price. Bedard can pitch when he's healthy. Just needs a start or 2 to get sharp. Box score, by the way, says 1.1 innings, 5 ER.
  4. Bedard went 1.1 innings, gave up 5 earned runs. That won't help Seattle trading him. Jiminez' stock just went up.
  5. Typical Wake. Sooner or later the HR ball gets him. You have to score runs with him, or forget it. They are rolling the dice trotting out Lackey, Wake and Miller regularly. Buchholz is really missed.
  6. I don't know why the Sox don't make a run at Pence. They have too many lefties in the OF. He would balance the lineup. And he would probably hit more HRs in Fenway. Looks to me they are going to use their trade resources for pitching. Which is OK. They are way up in hitting, and way down in pitching--in the team standings. Clearly, they need to improve their pitching--especially the starting pitching.
  7. His numbers still look good away from Denver. The Red Sox have a lot of pieces--they should be using them to get starting pitching. They aren't going to stay on top for long throwing Lackey, Wake and Miller out there every turn. Not unless they score about 8 runs.
  8. This thing seems to be down to Bedard, Harden or Jiminez. At least 2 of those 3 will be dealt. The question is who gets them. You know Seattle and Oakland are overvaluing their guys--playing the market. I hope Hunter Pence hasn't escaped their radar. The Phillies look like they are locked in on him.
  9. Rosenthal's a very good reporter, but how does he know the Yankees made no calls to the Rockies today? Isn't he from Fox? I wouldn't like to think ML phone lines are being tapped.
  10. Yeah, we're all on welfare, except for Curt Schilling, who's paying for it with his tax cuts.
  11. no Pedey, no Red Sox.
  12. The Royals aren't too good now. My point is the Red Sox win by bludgeoning people with their lineup. When they don't score runs, and the games are close, they don't win so much. Smallball isn't in their vocabulary. That could hurt them in the playoffs, where the pitching is much better. What is hurting them more right now is patchwork starting pitching due to injuries. Their hitting has been carrying them. Maybe that's why Theo has shifted his priority to a starting pitcher. He knows he can get a platoon RHd bat in RF for cheap.
  13. Of course, it's tax deductible. All those multi-millionaires aren't paying enough taxes. There should be a surtax on all this free money tossed around in sports that comes from the taxpayer thru the media. Check your cable bill.
  14. Teams are waiting until the last minute before dealing some of these guys, to see who offers the most value. Nobody is pulling the string early. On top of that, you have contenders like the Red Sox and the Yankees watching each other carefully--what one does may well depend on what the other does. There really is very little new information out there in the media, traderumors.com, etc. There will probably be deals made for players the media hasn't mentioned. That's how it usually is. Just a lot of hype until a trade actually happens. The teams are pretty good at hiding what they are really doing.
  15. They lost two low scoring games to a bad team, while beating them the other two with lopsided scores. That seems typical of the Red Sox this year. A bunch of free swingers with good batting eyes? They play for those 5 run innings.
  16. This is how internet rumors start.
  17. Furcal is bound to get hot the last two months. He is finally healthy this year. Expect performance close to his career average. Bedard would be OK--if he can get off the DL--and stay off. He has pitched well this year--when he's pitched.
  18. There's a rumor Ellsbury and Granderson have the same sports doctor. Recommended by Papi and Teixiera.
  19. Wily Mo was signed to be the fielding helmut for the right fielder.
  20. Like Bedard, too. Maybe also Harden. Don't like Kuroda.
  21. Like they said no to Beltran. Too much media buildup there. Like if they would go big for pitching. Like Jiminez. Like if they would go big for SS. Like Hanley. Like this post.
