  1. a game they have to win. you get 7 runs in Texas, you gotta win.
  2. Fielder's dad didn't last because of his body type. And son has the same body type. He isn't someone the Red Sox would pay big bucks to approaching 30.
  3. Everything is overhyped by the media in NY. Look at Beltran. They even suckered one contender to give up prime prospects for him. The teams that made out good are the Sox with Bedard and the Phillies with Pence. The Yankees are flying high with questionable pitching. When will they crash.
  4. Makes no difference. The Phillies are going to win this thing in a cakewalk. Pence makes the lineup stronger, but their pitching is unstoppable.
  5. Time to put Tek and Wake out to pasture. Not necessarily the same pasture.
  6. For years, I've been seeing posts in different Red Sox chatgroups about two players, "Hanley" and "Salty". Turns out those posters were right on both counts. Maybe the Red sox ought to rotate the GM job around the chat groups every year. The manager, too, mind you. The manager, too.
  7. Tito to his dying day will never know when to remove a pitcher, or whom to replace him with. Bless his soul, but it's just not his thing.
  8. Uggla just hit his 30th. The guy has gone dinger-crazy. Say another prayer they don't face Texas in the first round.
  9. sounds like they're going with 6 starters. Beck,Les,Bed,Wake,Lack,Miller. Say a prayer Buchholz comes back in Sept.
  10. I'm still waiting for the Yankees' schedule to get tough. Though they seem to play better than the Sox against the bad teams. Do the stats show that?
  11. Ells has plenty of time to show this season was not a fluke. And he'll get that time. They are in no rush to sign him. Their bigger problem right now is how to get Buchholz back, and make Lackey and Wakefield vanish.
  12. Their problem is PITCHING.
  13. yeah--they sure did screw themselves giving Crawford $20 million. You can bet Boras will remind them of that every day.
  14. If the Yankees were going to buy up every FA available, they would have by now. They can probably afford it, but the powers that be in Baseball won't allow it. The Yankees know there is a limit to how much they can use their blank checks. They have done enough damage to baseball in free agency jacking up prices, since Steinbrenner started it in the late 70s. The Red Sox are very fortunate to have a hedge fund $$ guy as an owner the last 8 years, who has more or less been able to keep up with them.
  15. Hey, Bard pitched two innings of mid-relief? today. Maybe they are "lengthening" him out to start. Grooming Wheeler to set up?
  16. Bring plenty of money. It's a lot more expensive than when I was a kid a 100 years ago.
  17. Tek should be the bullpen coach next year. He could well make a good manager in the future. Many catchers have gone on to be good managers. Houk, Tebbetts, Girardi come to mind. Who else? Al Lopez, the great White sox manager, was a catcher. Torre also caught and played 3B. Dick Williams caught some, too, and played the OF. Fisk would have made a great manager, but he didn't want it. Berra wasn't a great manager.
  18. Fenway charm? You should have seen it in 1950 when it was called Yawkey's Yard. You could have eaten off the infield grass. No dumb advertising signs. Spotless seats and aisles. Of course, in those days, the only guys making any big money is baseball were named Dimaggio, Williams and Musial. Later Mays and Mantle. Big money in those days was a hundred grand.
  19. I don't think they'll pay a big contract for a closer like Pap.Not when they have Bard in waiting. Then all they need is a cheaper setup guy. Financially, it doesn't make sense to keep Pap. Closers don't last, anyways. Pap is probably on the usual contract year high.
  20. Tito is already playing for the wild card. He always thinks ahead.
  21. Wake 4 runs in 5 innings. that doesn't do it on the road.
  22. Harden shut out Toronto last night, striking out 11. Looks like they blew it not getting that guy for peanuts.
