Signing him last year was stupid in light of what Edward ended up getting.
Signing Moreland this year if defensible.
No, he does not hit 30+ homers and drive in 100 runs.
He does, however, play good defense ( if not truly GG level ), he hits the ball hard, plays through injury, is a good guy and good teammate from appearances, and he is cheap. He does most of what you want your front line 1st baseman to do. And, he is a known commodity to our team.
Remember, signing JD was far from a certainty when DD inked Moreland. That was just smart business.
I remember when I first posed the idea of signing Morrison and the big brains here poo-pooed my idea ( big surprise there! ). I remember a700 stating that Duda sucked ( hits the s*** out of the ball for a few days and then disappears for several weeks ).
Now in the aftermath of the signing period, the big brains lament signing Moreland instead of those other two.
Whatever. Maybe the Sox paid more for Moreland than they could have had the other two for. I think the Sox made a measured and prudent move while remaining in the game for the big splash signing of JD.
