  1. What was in the water that you drank in Chicago? Maybe you have the color of the Sox confused? I seriously doubt that the Sox will "comeback" to make the playoffs ( if that is what you mean to say ). How does another near Mendoza bat help this team?????? Victorino's defense can be stellar. But how many wins will that account for? And if he does not hit well how will he utilize his speed to help the Sox win? The Bucholtz return to effectiveness is nice to see and a big surprise to many. I just don't see the Sox scoring enough runs when he pitches to make much of a difference. GO SOX!
  2. I agree to a large degree. However, I sense from what Victorino and the Sox are saying that he will be back with the big boys very soon. What happens if he is rushed back without getting his bat in order and he ends up being another Drew? I don't see him making much of an impact anytime soon. In this case, I'd just as soon start Holt in RF and see Betts sprinkled into the lineup most of the time. And if Betts is not going to start most of the coming games I would just as soon that he be returned to Pawtucket to refine his skills until the inevitable call-up later in the season.
  3. Too bad Clement got beaned by a combacker after his hot start. He looked really good up to that indecent. Of course to speak to your point, he probably was crap anyway.
  4. Getting Lester signed is a fan priority. Appearing as though they want to sign Lester is probably what the Sox want in this matter. The Sox should make an offer to Lester for 5/135 and wait for Lester to reject it. Then the Sox back off and make no other offers. When Lester signs with another team ( like the Yankees ), the Sox brass can say that they made a good ( reasonable ) offer to Lester and he turned it down. Face saved. See, the Sox don't want any part of signing Lester to a 5-8 year, $140.-$190. mil deal. They make what appears to be a decent offer now and most fans will say "the Sox tried" and be satisfied with that. The Sox brass is more concerned about the PR in this matter than they are about signing "their best pitcher for the last ten years". This is all only my opinion. Just like most other posts in this thread.
  5. Five days without baseball just sucks. I expect no miracles in the second part of the season. I would just like to see the Sox be in games with a good chance to win. I ask to much? GO SOX!!!!
  6. He also struck out flailing. The two hits never made it out of the infield. He is not exactly spanking the ball. He did appear to run well so that is an improvement, at least.
  7. Of course now there is this bit of news. I wonder how much of this is real and not just speculation. I do agree that the Sox brass do not want to resign Lester. I just do not see them shelling out $140.-$190. mil for him over 5-7 years. http://www.boston.com/sports/columnists/wilbur/2014/07/why_would_the_red_sox_want_cole_hamels_over_jon_le.html
  8. It's the power of playing in New York. By all accounts, Gwynn was a really nice guy and an ambassador of the game. Certainly one of the best hitters of all time. The snub was inexcusable.
  9. One of the best things about this kid is that most of the time when I've seen reports about him, Yaz was by his side. Just seeing Yaz ( who looks really great still ) brings back memories of really great times as a Sox fan. To this day he remains my favorite Sox player of all time.
  10. I believe that most fans are sick of the Jetter bag lapping already. What Fox did at the All Star Game was enough to make me turn the channel many times. Jetter was a great player for the Yankees. I get it. I'll be glad when this crap is all over.
  11. What moron would want Stanton for only two years?????? Obviously he would be an investment in the future for the Sox.
  12. I have been waiting to see Holt slide down to reality. But it has not happened. Maybe his BABIP is a little inflated now. Just look at his mechanics in the box and you can see that he is a more advanced hitter than many players on the Sox. I'm not sure where he will end up. Maybe not above .300 BA but nowhere near Mendoza either. Time will tell.
  13. Blasphemy!!!!
  14. But when he returns, what do you expect of him?
  15. Yes. But Stanton is going nowhere now. Miami will get a huge haul for him when it happens.
  16. This is how I feel. I am no manager, that is clear! I don't have the detailed knowledge of MLB goings on. But seat of the pants assessment told me that as he approached 100 pitches, Peavey was gased and would put men on base or worse. As it turned out, my suspicion was correct. I do not know what Farrell saw or what he was thinking when he decided to bring Peavey back out. I'd like to think that Farrrell is able to see what I see. A starter that is fatigued and losing command. Duh!!! I'm not a huge Farrell Fan and I am not someone who usually dumps on him. However, today, Farrell may have cost the Sox the game or at least made a stupid decision in keeping Peavey out there. I think sometime managers are stuck on the idea of match-ups instead of looking at the fact that the pitcher is actually doing this or that. Peavey did look pretty good for much of the game just as he has for about the past 2-3 starts.
  17. Time for some more runs. Peavey did well again. He better be done for the day.
  18. If Peavy gets out of this inning I will be pleasantly surprised.
  19. That was just stupid of him. Of course Ross singles. Lol.
  20. STUPID BOGAERTS!!!!!!! You had a single. Be happy with that!

  22. Did he announce his return to the Knicks today? I agree in any case.
  23. The Sox are on a tear!!! Well maybe not a tear but they are showing signs of life having won 3 games in a row. The offensive outburst last night warmed everyone's heart except AJ and anyone associated with the Astros. This game starts at 4:10 PM EST. Win today and the break out the broom tomorrow!!!! GO SOX!
  24. Yes he is. I like his approach at the plate. He has smart at bats. I wonder if he will sustain his current level of production? I did not expect him to keep batting .341 and now he is "down" to .309. I hope that he can end up batting over .270 with an OBP of .350 or so. I miss Ellsbury much less now.
