  1. I don't think we spent that much on him. I thought we spent in the 300-400k range. Considering that we got Jacobs and Younginer for less than $1 million (each) I doubt we spent 7 figures on Parthemore, unless decimals count.
  2. I believe we just signed our 31 (Timmy Webb) and 46 (John Pivach). Seems like filler to me but hey, it's worth a look.
  3. I would have DFA'd him right after leaving the batters box. And after giving him the obligatory kick in the nuts as well.
  4. I heard Buster Olney say that the Reds are eating some of the remaining salary. So by giving up Negron we aren't giving up as much money as I thought. While that's logical and somewhat obvious, it's still worth nothing nonetheless. If I heard correctly, the Reds were eating $1.2 million.
  5. I think we all knew that was coming...haha. You know you suck if it's announced that you get DFA'd right after the game.
  6. This combined with all of the draft picks we've signed today has made this one hell of a day.
  7. I'm definitely drinking to this game. Raise your glasses everyone. WOOO!!!!
  8. I really want to see Buchholz bat. (Yes, I know he'd get pinch hit for, but it'd be fun)
  9. This pepper talk reminds me of my rugby initiation at my University. We had to chug a Phall Curry, which is universally considered the hottest curry in the world, made with Scotch Bonnet and Habenero peppers. And we're talking a thick curry sauce as well. Makes that time I had to chug a solo cup of Tequila look childish.
  10. Looks like we've also signed our #18 Renny Parthemore, but I can't confirm it at this point. I'd be ecstatic even if we didn't sign a single player after that. Getting Renfroe, Youninger and Parthemore (in addition to what we've had) is enough for me.
  11. While this pales in comparison to signing #3 Renfroe for 1.4 million or #7 Younginer for 975k, we also signed our #28 Eric Curtis for 50-70k.
  12. Actually the Renfroe deal is officially $1.4 Million. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=1544
  13. Worst source of moderating ever.
  14. Lackey is only 3 years older for the record. I think the only thing Harden has going for him is his amazing stuff which leads to great strikeout numbers. But the guy doesn't go that far into games and he looks like he can get a concussion and a UCL sprain while masturbating. He's not doing that well this year whereas Lackey has rebounded from his injury and has still put up decent numbers. They have the exact same innings pitched this year despite Lackey having 3 less starts. In that time Harden has also allowed 9 more HR's than Lackey. I think Harden is way too much of a risk, unless he realises this and comes cheap, which probably won't happen. Not to mention that Harden has spent most of his career in Oakland.
  15. I'd rather have Lackey personally, and I've been thinking about getting him since this season began. I'd go "gun's blaze" for him if I can. Stopping short of giving him a blank cheque of course.
  16. As long as he's an automatic out on defense as well then I'm fine with it.
  17. If we don't win, I'm totally going to be pissed off.
  18. I've read in a lot of places that we could have had Orlando Cabrera for pretty cheap. I heard Oakland wanted Fernando Cabrera and someone else. I forget who but it was one of those older AAAA players in Pawtucket that I'm confident almost everyone here would agree is expendable. And the Sox were in on the deal but Cabrera did not want to come to Boston. It was clear that bridges were burned on his way out the last time and that it wasn't going to work. If Orlando Cabrera were a robot and you exchanged his personality with someone elses (but kept the playing ability), he'd most likely be in Boston right now. We had the chance at a great deal but Cabrera was definitely not coming back to Boston.
  19. For the record, his UZR/150 is 4.0
  20. Looks like we gave up Kris Negron in the deal. A little refresher on Kris Negron: Speedy infielder plays 2B, SS, 3B, and all three OF positions. Top notch glove with excellent range. At the plate, Negron gets on base at an okay clip, but the hits just aren't there enough. He has a good eye at the plate but still hacks on pitches out of the zone on occasion. Exceptionally fast down the line to first, and quick on the basepaths. Negron would be a prototypical leadoff hitter if he could make more contact.
  21. Luckily for you, David Renfroe should be up here by 2011.
