Not to steal YOTN's poetry thunder but here's my shot.
I love it when you call me Big Papi,
making Boston fans so cocky,
put that pitch in that place,
I'll put my balls in your face,
tied the game, mufukka's can't stop me.
On numbers alone I feel that Manny would deserve it as well, but his personality (classlessness) was a huge deterrent whereas Ortiz's is a huge benefactor. It's more than just the numbers imo. For the actual HOF I'd go on just numbers, but for the team HOF's I think what that players means (meant) to the club matters as well. And for each game Ortiz plays I think it becomes more and more of a certainty that his number is retired with him.
I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the thread, but the Sox have won 8 of the last 9 games started by Dempster. (Obviously not because of Dempster's pitching)
While I'm frustrated with the previous two games, Baltimore and Tampa both lost today and hadn't been doing well in their series so we're still doing well. We have Lackey tomorrow vs. Shields and then we're out of KC.
Considering our pitching staff was leading the league in walks for a long time, I don't think they are used to efficient innings. We are also probably near/at the bottom for complete games too.
Bogaerts may be able to do that....and hit the baseball. And even if he doesn't hit the baseball it'll still be ok because then we can say "oh he's just adjusting, he'll get better" whereas with Holt it doesn't really matter. It's kind of how a little puppy is cute when it's sleeping but nobody says that when they grow up.
I agree, and considering he's a little bit younger than some of the other non-McCann options, and since he hits right handed pitching better than most of the non-McCann (or Mauer) options, I'd like to keep him. What I'd love is a catcher that can hit lefties to help keep Salty from batting right handed. I have a feeling the market will make us hold onto Napoli. I wouldn't mind holding onto Drew or Ellsbury but that depends on price. It'll be an exciting offseason.
I just want draft picks. I'm fine with Ellsbury/Drew/Napoli (although he'll probably accept a QO) going. I'd want to hold onto Salty unless we get McCann.
While the errors were costly we still have a "0" next to our name. So assuming Chen passes his steroid test and the results hold, the defense won't be what lost us the game.
