  1. I agree AJ and sheets in the same rotation is a little to risky but wow what an upside the other poster who said signing sheets for 3 yrs would make hughes trade bait also had merit, all we need is a vet, a guy like byrd if he would take a 1 yr deal would be alright it's just hard to walk away from sheets upside, especially knowing it's a fact that we could get him for less than most / all the other teams I
  2. no I just figured if I could figure it out it had to be obvious ;-) http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii262/pinstripezac/yet.jpg
  3. it's a fact, that should be obvious to anyone who has been paying attention http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii262/pinstripezac/blank12ss_100985125.jpg maybe not cheaper than any everyone but they can get him for a lot less than the sox and most teams can no way have I given up on him but I don't want 2 guys joba / hughes with innings issues in the same rotation to start the season hughes and acceves should get plenty of work filling in for AJ and others
  4. solid post example1, but at the risk of sounding arrogant, when discussing the sox philosophy in acquiring players, it might be more accurate to separate the times when the yanks target to same players we all know the yanks have an unfair advantage when it comes to signing the big money players I want to question / disagree with that statement but too much depends on what the FO knows and expects about lowells recovery and to a lesser degree ortiz ability to rebound. then again, I guess that's more about need vs fits but need is something you left out unless sox FO has serious concerns about lowell the yanks needed tex more, again, at the risk of sounding arrogant it's pretty hard for anyone to get a FA the yankee really need / want couldn't one say they did with drew? if I remember right they did what the yanks did with CC, they made it clear right off the bat that the best offer was coming from boston and they just had to work out the details, in both cases the GM's knew that they wouldn't be competing against each other for these players same thing with lugo. my point is they have shown to be very aggressive when theo clearly wants / needs someone I gave them large kudos for how aggressive that Dmatt bid was I think it's going to get sticky / interesting when this crop of home growns reach FA, is doesn't appear paps or youk have any intent to take a dusty / beckett type deal to delay becoming a FA I'm thinking they will be harder to let walk away than a johnny or pedro % of revenue used on payroll, doesn't really tell us squat , but you might find it interesting Mrkt; Payroll; Revenue; Franchise; % of revenue used on payroll NYY 1, 1 (209), 1 (327), 1 (1306), 64% (2) NYM 1, 2 (138), 3 (235), 2 (824), 59% (7) LAA 3, 6 (119), 6 (200), 6 (500), 60% (6) LAD 3, 7 (119), 4 (224), 4 (694), 53% (9) CHW 5, 5 (121), 11 (193), 14 (443), 63% (3) Mrkt; Payroll; Revenue; Franchise; % of revenue used on payroll CHC 5, 8 (118), 5 (214), 5 (642), 55% (8) PHI 7, 12 (98), 13 (192), 10 (481), 51% (11) TEX 8, 21 (68), 16 (172), 16 (412), 40% (21) SFG 9, 17 (77), 8 (197), 8 (494), 39% (24) OAK 9, 28 (48), 24 (154), 26 (323), 31% (29) Mrkt; Payroll; Revenue; Franchise; % of revenue used on payroll BOS 11, 4 (133), 2 (263), 3 (816), 51% (11) ATL 12, 10 (102), 7 (199), 7 (497), 51% (11) WAS 13, 26 (55), 25 (153), 13 (460), 36% (26) HOU 14, 14 (89), 11 (193), 12 (463), 46% (15) DET 15, 3 (138), 15 (173), 17 (407), 80% (1) Mrkt; Payroll; Revenue; Franchise; % of revenue used on payroll ARZ 16, 23 (66), 20 (165), 20 (379), 40% (21) TBR 17, 29 (44), 28 (138), 29 (290), 32% (28) SEA 18, 9 (118), 9 (194), 11 (466), 61% (4) MIN 19, 25 (57), 26 (149), 25 (328), 38% (25) FLA 20, 30 (22), 30 (128), 30 (256), 17% (30) Mrkt; Payroll; Revenue; Franchise; % of revenue used on payroll CLE 21, 16 (79), 14 (181), 15 (417), 44% (17) COL 22, 20 (69), 17 (169), 21 (371), 41% (20) STL 23, 11 (100), 9 (194), 9 (484), 52% (10) PIT 24, 27 (49), 27 (139), 28 (292), 35% (27) BAL 25, 22 (67), 19 (166), 18 (398), 40% (21) Mrkt; Payroll; Revenue; Franchise; % of revenue used on payroll SDP 26, 19 (74), 18 (167), 19 (385), 44% (17) KCR 27, 24 (58), 29 (131), 27 (301), 44% (17) CIN 28, 18 (74), 21 (161), 23 (337), 46% (15) MIL 29, 15 (81), 23 (158), 24 (331), 51% (11) TOR NA, 13 (98), 22 (160), 22 (352), 61% (4) http://royalsblog.kansascity.com/?q=node/176
  5. not sure if you saw this 26 but I thought it was a fun read http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-teixeira24-2008dec24,0,3504349.story “Man, that’s crazy,” Angels center fielder Torii Hunter said. “Those da mn Yankees! They don’t play around. When they’re trying to win, they’re trying to win. It’s crazy. They just paid $27 million in luxury tax. That’s like 27 dollars to them. They don’t even care.” Said Hunter: “They’re scary. Their rotation is one of the best, if not the best, in the game, and now look at their lineup. They have A-Rod, Jeter, Teixeira, Hideki Matsui, Xavier Nady, Robinson Cano, Jorge Posada is coming back [from injury], Nick Swisher . . . golly, that’s a nice lineup.” “That’s going to be a dogfight, a pit-bull fight,” Hunter said. “It’s going to be pretty rough in that division. Tampa Bay has the confidence. Boston has won two championships. Toronto and Baltimore play you hard too. Good luck in that division. “They’ve had the best lineup I’ve seen for seven years in a row and they haven’t won it all,” Hunter said. “They can still be beat. It will take dedication, hard work, and you’ve got to have heart. When you have that, you have a chance.” “They’re the Beasts of the East,” Hunter said. “The Evil Empire.”
  6. no doubt to much free time chained to a land line and fax machine a) it's xmas I'm just setting them up so they will check out the ones we will enjoy more ;-)

  8. yeah that's why I started the vid with them all wearing brown bags but why go there ? can't you even loosen up on xmas
  9. . agreed, I never understood that line of thinking, usually it comes from RSN why switch 2 players around when both players have lost range since 03 talking about jeter's D is like talking about the 3rd rail in yankeeland I see him ending his career in LF
  10. it's official now http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii262/pinstripezac/winter.jpg the yankees have won another winter no worries RSN all it does is put us close enough to even w/ sox to make it more fun for all http://www.anonymousspace.com/albums/userpics/112625/Seasons_Greetings_Snomen.gif RSN hey, I'd hate to look like another theo and not get you guys anything for xmas but I hardly know ya, so the best I can do is offer you this old video hopefully you get a smile or 2 out of it if not it's still a great tune
  11. I don't see either damon or swisher spending much time in CF I'm thinking, as of now our CF will be fought out this spring by gardner and melky unless they do as you alluded to and trade nady with one of the arms / kids in the minors for a CF or maybe wait to see what matusi can even do before making a move I have NP with gardner batting 9th to start the yr
  12. thanks should I bring some cheese and crackers for our friends http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii262/pinstripezac/34.jpg
  13. it could happen personally I don't care as long as he doesn't come to the yanks and it looks like I don't have to worry about that any more maybe the mets will sneak in last minute
  14. the always felt manny to the nats made more sense than texeria to the nats manny will sell more tickets and help more in building a fan base
  15. I'm glad to see the yanks are using the tax payers money wisely ;-) Sources: Teixeira, Yanks agree to 8-year deal ESPN.com Updated: December 23, 2008, 3:34 PM ET Comment Email Print Free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira has reached agreement with the New York Yankees on an eight-year contract worth more than $170 million, two sources involved in the negotiations tells ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. The Yankees swooped in on Teixeira on Tuesday when it was believed the Boston Red Sox or the Washington Nationals were the likeliest to be his future employer. The Red Sox's offer was believed to be in the range of $170 million, and the Nationals reached out with an offer perhaps greater than that of Boston. Teixeira finished last season with the Los Angeles Angels following a trade from Atlanta. The Angels withdrew from negotiations on Sunday night, in a very public manner, and say they were moving on to other players. Teixeira had made it clear that he wanted to make a decision on where to play next season and beyond by Christmas. Buster Olney is a senior writer for ESPN The Magazine.
