I'm less concerned about his power potential, but more about his patience at the plate (380 OBP, 15% BB) and his overall defense (9 assists and can play all 3 positions, 55 grade speed).

I wouldn't trade Duran at this point. He's not off the table, but he'd have to bring back a pretty substantial piece considering the amount of control the team has (ARB 3 is 2028).

Teoscar isn't a good fit for the Red Sox. He generally isn't a good RFer and k's at 30%. I'd rather just bring up Abreu and get 1 fWAR that way than spend $14M.

If Hickey starts in AA, it's because he's learning a new position. Otherwise, they are just wasting time on him. Wikelman probably starts in AA, but is called up sooner than Mayer unless Mayer starts off really hot. Mayer is dealing with a shoulder injury right now, so he's probably not going to get enough AA AB's this year to be on track for a quick call up next season.

If he gets promoted, I'm not sure what position he'd play. He couldn't play behind the dish in MLB.

The top 5 of Moncada, Beni, Espinoza, Devers and Kopech all peaked as top 10-20 prospects. Bleis isn't even top 100 right now. Rafaela is still low on some lists (60-70ish).

I think he takes the buyout this offseason. I don't know if Bloom brings him back at more money, but I'm not sure it makes financial sense to have 2 DH's on this team. I'd rather they spend the money on starting pitching. The only way this works is if they are going to go with: DH Turner LF Masa CF Duran RF Rafaela I'd rather Rafaela in between two bad to mediocre defenders instead of all the way in RF (yes, I know how important RF is in Fenway).

I get the idea that posters have, but people throw out ridiculous trades on here. Paulino's ranked 24th now. He's not good right now. With all the tools we have as Red Sox fans (SoxProspects, BTV), at least take the time and come up with a trade that makes sense.

What trade value does Paulino have??? 732 OPS (464 vs LHP) Who wants a platoon SS that's still in High A? There's just nothing there that's going to bring back a starting pitcher.

Or instead of getting a pitcher at the deadline, getting a better pitcher than Kluber in the offseason?

Once Turner is gone, Masa is the everyday DH IMO.

Walter has been worse since hitting AAA and coming back from injury. Robertson has shown that he can pitch well at AAA. Walter hasn’t, especially after his stuff ticking back since injury. Walter’s AA numbers are virtually meaningless to how he’ll pitch in BOS at the moment. His pitching at AAA is a better indicator.

Without the pitching prospect added in, the trade makes no sense. You can’t just go by prospect ranking and think it’s one for one. I agree that somebody like Drohan (top 10 prospect) would have to be added.
