I'm not saying that's what is happening now, I'm saying that's what I'd do next year if they were trying to get close to fulltime (162) for some players. Duran would no longer lose playing time to Ref, Verdugo would.

It's a healthy team full of guys that find themselves often getting injured. I wouldn't bet on them staying healthy.

He's a better fielder than Masa according to DRS and OAA. He didn't show up on the list I was looking at because he doesn't have enough qualified at bats and I don't worry about AAA teams like the ones that play in the Bronx.

2024: C Wong/McGuire (no 162's) 1B Casas should go 162, but he missed time in '21 and '22 due to injury. I'd still sit him here and there. 2B No clear 162 player SS Story should go 162, but has only played over 150 games once 3B Devers should go 162, but only if you can give him the DH spot (has done 156 twice) LF Masa should go 162, but had soft tissue injuries this year, probably can't do it CF Duran should go 162 and probably is the only guy that could do it RF Verdugo could go 162, but I think having a guy like Refsnyder fill in for LHP is fine here

Yeah, it's why the Sox only have 16% chance to get into the playoffs. It's because it's unlikely for everything to break just right.

With the Braves, they have 4 of the best players in the game and they want them in the lineup as much as possible. With the Sox, I'm not sure any of the guys have really stood out from the pack until recently. Even then, are they in the conversation with the Braves players? Acuna #1 fWAR Olson #8 fWAR Riley #23 fWAR Albies #33 fWAR Devers #60 fWAR Casas and Duran should prove to be fulltime guys going forward, but I can see why they weren't at the beginning of this season. Both also have considerable defensive issues though Duran is improved. Is Story ready for 162? I doubt it. Masa? Maybe if the DH spot is open, but he had lower body injuries this year which held him back at times.

Are you talking actual "rest days" or sitting a guy for a matchup?

20M for a pitcher makes sense. For Verdugo? Maybe? That's 2.5 fWAR which is about what he does every year. I think they'd be better off moving on from him and trying to package him in a trade for a middle rotation starter.

Turner can't go 162. No way. Hard to "rest" other guys at DH if you sign a fulltime DH like Masa.

Chipper Jones never played a full 162. He played 150+ from 96-03. From 04-on, he never hit 150 games again and averaged 122 games. Seems like he eventually needed the rest. Maybe it's good depending on the age of the player?

McCutchen has only 8 games played in the OF this season: -9.2 dWAR (FanGraphs) Masataka is at -12.7. DH is a -17.5 runs adjustment in WAR, while LF is -7.5. Masa has a -1.3 UZR for the games played in LF (-1.3 -7.5 = -8.8). Factor the -17.5 he'd get prorated for the DH games and he gets to -12.7. I think that's how it works?

Sorry, OPS. I misread it as OBP I guess. Yes, Verdugo has s*** for SLG. He's never been able to hit for power. The problem is that Teoscar is now 30 and should probably have more "down years" going forward. His arm strength is down from last year. He's going to start to get slower. IDK, he's not a profile I see this FO going for. They brought in Turner and Masataka last year, two guys with patient approaches. Teoscar is the opposite of that and is similar to Hunter Renfroe, a guy the FO moved on from.

Yes, that's why even SoxProspects guys say "don't scout box scores." They rely on seeing the players AND analytics. It's both.

I'm not sure both of them can be in the rotation though. Houck has the higher ceiling as a starter than Crawford IMO. I'd go with: Yamamoto Bello FA/Trade Sale Houck pen: Crawford, Pivetta, Bernardino, Schreiber, Winckowski, Whitlock, Martin, Jansen They've loaded up on bulk guys (Houck, Crawford, Pivetta, Murphy, Winckowski, Whitlock) and I don't think it necessarily works for stabilizing the roster. Winckowski has been better now that they are pushing him towards a more pure relief profile. I'd like to see that for Whitlock as well. They should probably consider trading one or two of the bulk guys and adding in pure relief type arms or shoring up the rotation.

Yes, but he's not rehabbing, he's just on the IL. A player can refuse the IL if he's healthy. Kluber is not healthy. With the rehab, a player can only be rehabbing on in MiLB for 20 days (the Trevor Story rule we just saw). My guess is Kluber's shoulder is really bad, he doesn't want surgery and is just waiting out the season. Maybe he retires in the offseason?
