Flaherty? I think the Cardinals are looking to grab at least 2 FA's as well. There are a lot of available pitchers, but there are a lot of buyers as well.

Putting him into a parttime role at 1B would ultimately hurt his 3B defense even more IMO. I don't like that idea at all. If they are going to have Devers move to 1B, they do it all at once.

They would not move Devers to 1B for a handful of games. More likely they find someone else to learn 1B.

I'm not SOLD on Duran. I think he should be given a chance to start this year. It's not like they have been options in the OF right now. Abreu won't BABIP 431 next year so his numbers will take a hit. Rafaela is still an unknown. Cora isn't happy with Verdugo. Masa sucks in LF. Refsnyder has a bad glove and has a noodle bat facing anyone that throws RH. Seems like Duran should get a long look? There are no locks out there.

Dalbec is the backup 1B for now. After him it'd be Kavadas or Scott. Seems like they'll have to figure something out there.

So that means he'd need a super utility guy to fill in at times when they are rolling the DH through the lineup. Acquisition? Kiner-Falefa? Merrifeld? Just use Rafaela? I also think guys need the mental break from getting the day off, not just the physical break.

I already posted my thoughts above. Ref would ONLY play LF. Duran would go to CF in almost every situation as I think he's terrible in RF. Rafaela can move to 2B or RF.

For sure. Didn't see that move until you mentioned it. Seems like he'll be fun enough to watch if you're in WOO. He's the Dollar General Abreu, but has a sweet 'stache.

He only had 0.2 fWAR last season. He doesn't need to start every game vs every LHP.

Lots of teams have weak fielding platoon bats. It's fine.

It's $ you can use strictly as a bench bat and it impacts nothing. He'll get a decent amount of PA's. Cora will find a good use for him.

Duran had a 749 OPS vs LHP last year. That's not flailing. If he flails, bench him. Nobody is suggesting otherwise. Duran isn't the only guy that could be platooned. Also, STOLEN BASES AREN'T THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO WITH SPEED AND DURAN ISN'T A GREAT BASESTEALER ANYWAY.

Dugo hit LHP well in 2020. He never did it again. Duran hit LHP well in 2023. We just have to see if he can do it again.

@SoxProspects Per the @BaseballAmerica transactions, the Red Sox signed OF Mark Contreras to a minor league deal. MIN 9th-rd pick from UC Riverside in 2017. Most of last 3 years in AAA. Limited MLB experience in '22. .274/.352/.418 in '23. Plays all 3 OF positions. A LHB for the OF??? Crag doesn't know what he's doing!!!!!! He'll probably hit 20 bombs in WOO. Seems to have a decent arm and can play all 3 OF positions. Hope we don't need to see him in Fenway though.
