  1. @EdHand89 Losing nine players in the Rule 5 draft shows just how far the Red Sox farm system has come over the last few years as teams actually want the talent they can't protect.
  2. @IanCundall Overall the Red Sox lost 7 players in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft: RHP Jose Ramirez (A) - CWS C Johnfrank Salazar (A) - STL OF Alexis Hernandez (A) - TOR RHP Railin Perez (A) - HOU RHP Ryan Miller (AA) - LAA IF Ryan Fitzgerald (AAA) - KC RHP Brock Bell (A+) - CIN Brock Bell could be one to monitor, but he has just missed so much baseball since being drafted...
  3. You do think what he did was dithering though. You said as much in your definition. He refused the JD and Sale trades (bigger deal). What he accomplished didn't push the needle or help the ballclub in a meaningful way (nothing or next to nothing).
  4. Fernandez may not make it out of ST healthy. We'll see if both are returned.
  5. And Ryan Fitzgerald was also taken in the MiLB portion.
  6. Sox lost the following in the MiLB portion: Johnfrank Salazar Jose Ramirez Alexis Hernandez Railin Perez Ryan Miller
  7. @alexspeier Red Sox select catcher Michael (ed: "Mickey") Gasper -- a Merrimack, NH native -- from the Yankees' Double-A roster in the minor league Rule 5 draft. He hit .246/.361/.375 between AA and AAA this year. Sunrise. Sunset.
  8. We'll see if they are going to try to make it work with Mata. He has big time stuff if he can harness it as a reliever.
  9. Red Sox PASSED
  10. Ryan Fernandez #6 to Cardinals
  11. Lester didn't really come back to bite us, but he should have been a lifetime Red Sox and the contract he signed wasn't horrible.
  12. I think he's less likely as a #1 pick than Ward was.
  13. For a guy that is supposedly a "baseball guy" he has some really dumb takes.
  14. Beltre is the only one that should have stayed.
  15. They don't seem like good Fitts.
  16. Just wait until Wong is replaced by Teel and someone else. Then we can have this same conversation.
  17. The trade could have been worse: @TonyMassarotti Hmm. Think the Red Sox could have gotten Stanton for Verdugo? Just remember this for the next time someone wants to quote this GOOBER.
  18. What are you guys complaining about? MLBPipeling (the greatest of all prospect evaluations) says Dick Fitts is better than Luis Perales! @BOSSportsGordo Newly acquired Richard Fitts slots in as @MLBPipeline’s #10 Red Sox prospect and their #2 pitching prospect. He’s behind Wikelman Gonzalez in their Sox pitching prospect rankings.
  19. It was DUMB. I understand why we can't stop relitigating it. I don't think it's smart to keep Verdugo just because you traded Betts for him though.
  20. Per MLBTradeRumors: Boston doesn’t need to add (Fitts) to the 40-man roster until next offseason to keep him out of the Rule 5 draft, but it’s possible he pitches his way into the MLB rotation mix at some point during the summer.
  21. Which guy is Rule 5 eligible? Fitts was drafted in '21, Judice in '23 and Weissert was on the 40 man.
  22. On Beni vs Verdugo: Since 2020 Beni 4.1 fWAR Verdugo 7 fWAR I'm not seeing the comp here? Most of Beni's value came from 2018 when he had 5 fWAR, a season he has never replicated again. He may be a true one hit wonder.
  23. He was the centerpiece? I thought the prize was the highly rated Jeter Downs who flamed out?
  24. Current Scouting Grades Verdugo: Speed 45 Field 50 Abreu: Speed 55 Field 55
