  1. I think that's the issue with Breslow. He overprioritizes the pitching from rookie ball through MLB. It's great that the system was overhauled, but they have forgotten about 50% of the roster TBH, especially when it comes to drafting and the farm. Some will handwave it away and say "oh, the MLB squad is all signed for 3 years" but that ignores everything that happened in 2020-3 when there were no more replacements coming from the farm. This team can't rely solely on trades. Continuing to ignore real FA acquisitions will hurt them in the long run if they can't develop young bats. This isn't the first time I've said this. At least he's grabbed some catchers this year. That's been a pain point for me for a long time. It's tremendous that they have been able to move this pitching program forward. I'm all for it. However, just keep developing hitters too. That was their bread and butter for years and years. Moving away from it doesn't make much sense.
  2. If he had an average bat, he'd be getting way more than 1/6M. His last contract was 2/15 which was apparently too high of an AAV for the rest of the league this go around.
  3. That's only because the Sox will still lose about 45% of their games. Easy to say that every single time and look like a genius 70 times during the summer. It's not like the NBA where good teams only lose 25% of the time or the NFL where it's 20% of the time.
  4. Big fan of Sandlin were you?
  5. I'd rather have IKF as a starter for 2 months than Hamilton. I just don't look forward to everyone on here butchering the spelling of his name.
  6. Even if they don't get another guy, it's better than doing nothing. However, if they don't get another guy, the offense is not good enough unless Mayer really turns it around this season and hits 775 or something. Story will still be near 100 OPS+. 2b is going to be some sort of player churn. Contreras should be fine. OF should be fine. No clue about the plan at DH (6th in OPS in '25, but would expect it to be lower this year). Changes from last season: 1B: better DH: worse 3B: worse They were 11th in wRC+ in '25. Maybe 13-16th this year? I'd expect them to fall out of the top 10 in runs as well.
  7. I think IKF is perfect as a bench guy to fill in for a roster that could have significant IL issues (Story, Mayer) and already question marks at 2b. This pushes Hamilton off the roster, a guy who can only play 2b. Seems fine to me.
  8. Last year, Samaniego was coming back from TJS. I don't know what he'll bring to the table this season. I wouldn't have protected Uberstine. I don't think he'd do very well if called up. Maybe his stuff plays up in a bullpen role, but he's still slated to be a starter for now. Drohan just can't stay healthy. Whatever they get out of that guy is a bonus at this point.
  9. He spent more time between 1B and C in AAA that season. We'll see where they slot him this year depending on need.
  10. He has never hit at the MLB level. Not sure he can be relied on as a 26 man guy long term.
  11. Don't worry, the players can only play in the WBC if they are insured. It's why some teams are pulling out.
  12. If Ward and Hamilton were on the same roster in AAA, it would be like the mid 80's Cardinals. Ward hasn't always hit, so we'll see how he does in WOO.
  13. Gasper will find enough playing time in WOO. While the pitching down there is outstanding, the hitting is pretty rough. Aside from KC, Romero and Sogard, it has a lot of guys that probably won't have MLB impact (and that's stretching it for Sogard).
  14. I think Pete's point is that it's impressive that there are that many 40 man people onsite almost a week before the reporting date (includes KC and maybe a rehabbing Casas). He's been going to Spring Training for a long time and maybe it's not always like this.
  15. While Mexico did great last time, the previous two times, they were knocked out in the first round while Netherlands placed 4th those years.
  16. WBC doesn't happen until a few weeks into ST. All the players should report on Feb 15th before heading to their WBC teams.
  17. $8.2M last season. If the Sox offered him 5M, he probably signs. Sox were probably happy at 2.
  18. Proof of life:
  19. Oh boy. Are you threatening Masa with that? He doesn't want to play OF.
  20. Doesn't run well. Doesn't have power. Can't field a position. Doesn't hit LHP well. Useless as a bench role.
  21. Parking a DH on the bench? Fun.
