  1. Cease is a good pitcher, but that 2.20 ERA was like Kim Jong Il hitting 11 hole in one's... very lucky.
  2. And the 2 seasons prior to that he was injured.
  3. 4. His xFIP in '20 was 3.65.
  4. Good morning!
  5. "I don't care about BTV."
  6. Is it official?
  7. Not sure Cora would be moving Story off of SS for Kim. They would make a great defensive duo though. Put Rafaela in CF as much as possible...
  8. DESPERATE DAVE strikes again!!!
  9. @jryanxc96 Jim Bowden of the Athletic states that although Kim might not be available, the Padres may look to sell high on him. Also says the Sox look like a good suitor and used a package of Houck/Yorke as a possibility. I think I'd be much more confident if Kim was at 2B going forward.
  10. If the best pitchers kinda suck, owners will need to pay top dollar on kinda sucky pitchers. That's just the economics of the game.
  11. 7 of the top 20 pitchers over the past 3 years averaged 10 or less wins per year. Pitchers must really suck these days.
  12. Can Monty throw to 1B?
  13. He does have ace upside. Sorry, Yamamoto AND Snell are the two potential staff aces. However, I really don't like the idea of signing Snell.
  14. According to FanGraphs (the good website that looks like it's from 2008 rather than 1998), he's earned $264M to date.
  15. Depends on which one. Not Mayer, Anthony or Teel. I'd package some of the other guys depending on what the contract is.
  16. There are concerns with every pitcher simply due to the injury risk. With Yamamoto, there is a projection for a TOTR classic ace type starter. The other pitchers are 1b's or 2's. For the Sox to turn the franchise around, they need to find the next Tiant/Roger/Pedro/Sale.
  17. Sonny Gray is a good pitcher, but I think may opt to have Montgomery instead. I guess it depends on the contracts. Yamamoto is really the only guy I'd be all in on. Everyone else has a certain amount of concerns.
  18. He's a very good pitcher. The question is if the money can be used more wisely if you aren't spending it on a true top of the rotation guy like Yamamoto.
  19. And I'm not sure I'd pay it. I expressed that before the Rangers were even in the WS.
  20. Montgomery is 24th in wins since the beginning of 2020. There are a lot of pitchers with more wins than him with much higher ERA's. Gibson has 10 more wins, but his ERA is 4.58 over that time period. I don't think anyone would say he's better than Montgomery and his contract this offseason will be much smaller than Montgomery's.
  21. His ERA the past 4 seasons have been real good.
  22. He missed 18-19 due to TJS. He's been healthy and productive ever since. 3.61 ERA 8.44 K/9 13th most fWAR 9th most starts 19th most IP Is he an ace? No, but he's at least a very good and reliable 2/3.
  23. I'm not sure he'll be the bust that Kung Fu Panda was in Boston, but I think he will be overpaid. If he can stay healthy and just be a workhorse, it may not be a big issue. Just hope he doesn't need TJS #2 .
  24. Not at the moment.
  25. When the Yanks traded him, they thought they were getting the really good version of Harrison Bader back and Monty's k rate was considerably down in '22. They were making a playoff run and were going to go with Cole/Taillon/Cortes/Severino/German. Now, Taillon is gone, Cortes stinks, German has a drinking problem and Severino is a FA/always injured. They chose poorly.
