  1. For catchers above 200 PA's, both he and McGuire were outside the top 30. The average starting catcher would be a 2 fWAR guy like Jansen in TOR. Only one catcher had 2 fWAR last year with less than 97 wRC+. Wong just k's too much and bb's too little for a guy without much in game pop.
  2. O'Neill should match it, but his injury history shows he'll be out for half the season. Undetermined what Abreu will do for act 2.
  3. Average ticket price in 2006: 46.50 Average ticket price in 2023: 63.00 (35% increase) Payroll increased 45% over the same time period. It looks like Henry is taking on more cost and less revenue! However, the Red Sox only got about 25M from national tv back in '06, that number was up to about 100M in '23.
  4. Because Bloom wasted a bunch of money while not competing in '22 and '23. If Bloom had actively shopped his players and gotten under the CBT in '22, he'd probably still be here.
  5. Casas, yes. Wong, no. I think we've seen what we've seen from Wong. He's athletic and has a strong arm and pop time, but his framing and blocking sucks. If he's going to continue to not hit, he should be replaced. The tools he carries behind the plate show me why he was initially projected as a UTIL guy, but his bat just isn't there to carry that position.
  6. Verdugo wasn't great, but he was a 98 wRC+. He is being replaced by O'Neilll and some younger guys that we don't really know what to expect from.
  7. The real problem(s): (a) they took away the trough urinals ( they took away the coke bottles above the monster © the ketchup is bad now (d) none of the above (e) all of the above (f) a and b (g) a and c (h) b and c
  8. You disagree with all my points. That's nothing new.
  9. And I don't think either will be impactful MLB starters due to control issues.
  10. On paper, the rotation is slightly worse and only gets better if the pitchers improve under Bailey. The defense should be good because Masa will be at DH more, Story has more SS reps and potential Rafaela in CF. Offense looks worse due to loss of Duvall, Turner and Verdugo. Need improvements from Story and Masa to offset the losses.
  11. Cora Watch Day 1: Skipping practice today due to "stomach bug."
  12. @AndreesBolivar Per sources I can confirm the report that places Edward Cabrera close to joining to Pittsburgh Pirates.
  13. If they were invested in Raffy, they'd be building around him rather than wasting a few years while he's under contract.
  14. Bloom would always have a weird hole or two in the roster. At least I don't see that this year? I know the rotation could be better, but that's been the case for a while. This year there isn't a gaping hole at SS or CF or 1B or wherever that we've seen recently.
  15. They'd have to acquire good starting pitchers first. I haven't seen them attempt to do that. Seems like they are just thinking of clearing out two guys that won't be here next season and one guy who was overrated in '22. Sox have a ton of bullpen depth because that is all they are able to develop.
  16. As his performance only gets worse?
  17. Yeah, Sox spending more on the 2023 team than the 2004 proves they care more than they ever did before!!!!!! Seriously, the Sox being the 2nd highest payroll in '04 was MEANINGLESS. It was more important that they were the 13th highest payroll in '23!!!!!!!!!!! You can't complain they aren't spending!!!!!!!!
  18. Yes. He became a top prospect. He struggled with a few injuries. He's as much of a hit as Houck IMO. https://www.southsidesox.com/2023/11/6/23941670/chicago-white-sox-what-went-wrong-2023-michael-kopech
  19. People on here complain about ticket prices all the time. Fisher did a BOGO for Opening Day!!!!!
  20. Moving Schrieber certainly wouldn’t be about finances. Considering offers on him (or Martin, to a lesser extent) seems more of a broad openness by chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and the front office to consider opportunities that could balance the roster. Boston is still looking for right-handed hitting outfield help and could use additional certainty out of the rotation. I guess just fix the roster later then?
  21. Do you have to be paid like a franchise player to be the most important part of the franchise? All of the Sox' plans are on hold until Mayer et al show up. Seems like he's more important than the big dog.
  22. @IanMBrowne Jarren Duran has gone blonde. That is the big news so far this morning. Always getting to the important news. Asking follow up questions like "why did Mookie say no 300M offer was made" aren't allowed.
  23. Marcelo Mayer?
  24. Wouldn't you listen to offers on EVERYONE if you're not competing this year? Is Schreiber untouchable for some reason?
  25. Should have sold Schreiber at the obvious height of his value in '22.
