  1. I know. You mentioning the dWAR issue just made me think of the Rotoworld ranking and how it overinflates his value.
  2. That's why they are getting Fitts, Mayer and Abreu.
  3. Rotowire has him ranked as #9 overall. 🤗
  4. Let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. How soon until Campbell is a better prospect than Mayer? Is he the 2b of the future anyway? What if Romero is the future SS for the BoSox? Is he a top 100 guy at some point next year?
  6. Wikelman is garbo. I'm giving him up just to get him off the 40 man.
  7. From Jay Jaffe today on the changes in playoff %'s since trade deadline: Team W L W% Div WC Playoffs W L W% Div WC Playoffs Net Playoffs Mariners 56 52 .519 40.6% 8.3% 48.9% 69 69 .500 2.5% 3.3% 5.8% -43.1% Red Sox 56 50 .528 1.5% 1.4% 42.0% 70 68 .507 0.0% 14.0% 14.0% -28.0% Cardinals 54 52 .509 7.9% 14.9% 22.7% 69 69 .500 0.0% 0.9% 1.0% -21.7% Giants 53 55 .491 0.4% 17.3% 17.6% 68 70 .493 0.0% 0.4% 0.4% -17.2% Pirates 54 52 .509 5.8% 10.1% 15.9% 64 73 .467 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% -15.9% Mets 56 50 .528 1.5% 50.0% 51.6% 74 64 .536 1.0% 34.7% 35.8% -15.8% The Red Sox lost seven of 10 games heading into the deadline, slipping to 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, and while they made several moves, nothing they did amounted to an impact addition — an all-too-familiar situation for John Henry’s club in recent years. They reacquired James Paxton, and added Danny Jansen and a few bullpen pieces, including Luis García and Lucas Sims, but even those moves have largely backfired. Paxton made just three starts before returning to his all-too-familiar home on the injured list. Jansen made history by playing for both the Blue Jays and Red Sox in a suspended game but has hit for just a 64 wRC+ for his new team. García and Sims made a hash of their high-leverage opportunities, combining to allow 22 runs in 20.2 innings before landing on the IL, having made significant contributions to the bullpen’s 5.59 ERA and 5.20 FIP since the deadline. With the exception of a strong stretch from Brayan Bello, the rotation has largely regressed in that time as well, and for as great a human interest story as the latest Rich Hill comeback may be, his workload isn’t going to turn things around. While the Sox remain fourth in the AL Wild Card race, they’re now closer to last place in the AL East (3.5 games) than qualifying for the postseason (4.5 games.).
  8. Give them Fitts and Wikelman.
  9. Sparky Lyle?
  10. That was almost certain from the moment the trade was agreed upon.
  11. IMO, Atlanta was closer to a real playoff push and it was worth it to roll the dice on Sale's upside than for the Sox. ATL also had some injuries in the rotation needed Sale's arm. ATL were also able to maneuver their rotation enough to allow Sale to have an additional day of rest for almost every start this season. Sox were still in more of a bridge phase and Sale may not put them over the top. Both teams may end up missing the playoffs this year though.
  12. Last chance to vote is today! Any idea when/if the results will posted?
  13. There was a certain amount of that value attributed to Grissom working out in some way shape or form. He's shown signs of life in AAA recently, but it's been a very rough year for him.
  14. He hasn't been healthy long enough for us to see if his bat is still good or not.
  15. He'd be fine at 2b.
  16. His -9 DRS this season is probably just an aberration!
  17. Not to worry, DeJong is a FA.
  18. Well that's clearly why you added the Spaceman to that list. Great pitcher and I love the documentary where he went to pitch in Cuba.
  19. "You piggies are just going to keep eating this slop anyway."
  20. Theo said he's spending time to work with the other entities more so than the Red Sox.
  21. If he was being honest, he'd say "we'll be around .500 for 3-4 more years, but be competitive enough to be in reach of the playoffs at times. We'll have a window of another 3-4 years and then have to rebuild most likely. I've won 4 World Series already so you have to trust what I'm doing even though what I'm doing now is completely different than what I've done in the past!"
  22. Hard to say every LHP traded was a mistake, but Lee only left to have one decent year. They were 11 games back in '79. He wasn't putting them over the top.
  23. Bill Lee isn't a very good example for this though.
  24. Remind me in 9 months how this works out for you.
  25. The history of sports franchises haven't been "milk this thing dry for shareholders" the way we've seen with venture capitalists. Ownings sports teams have been more of a play thing for rich bastards. It's more about getting their rocks off from feeling like a big shot around ballplayers. Making money has been secondary. If you want to root for JH to hold onto additional money as fans spend more and more of it on a losing product, more power to you. It's fine for me to use my voice to tell ownership how to spend the money because in absence of shareholders, we are the only ones that can hold him accountable.
