It's Winck vs Guerrero. Winck wasn't great last season and has started off poorly. The org is probably pretty down on him. I'd rather see Guerrero get the nod too.
The bullpen projected here is what SoxProspects projected on their previous podcast. Seems about right? Last spot is between Adams and Ottavino.
Sternberg really has to go. Dude has treated the Tampa area poorly over the past few years and is one of the owners who doesn't want to put any of his money into owning a baseball team.
And they are hitting the daylights out of pitchers that are working on pitches, not trying to necessarily get hitters out. These guys are going out there and intentionally working on a specific pitch that day and not caring about the on field results because the game doesn't matter. They pull guys after 1.2 innings. It's not real baseball. I love these games, but don't look at Trayce Thompson and think he's all of a sudden a MLB talent because of a few weeks of ST baseball.
If you add them to the MLB roster to start the year, the only way to get them back to AAA is to DFA them. People are getting too worked up over Spring Training numbers as usual.
And elsewhere it was noted that a pitch like the sweeper may add additional strain on the elbow. Pitching that at 100% effort everytime may not be worth it in the long run. Just look at how the Rays have treated their pitching staff over the years. Lots of great young arms and reclamation projects who pop for a year and lots of injuries.
Priester: 2HR, 8 H, 4 BB, 5 K, 6.2 IP
Fitts: 0HR, 6 H, 4 BB, 9 K, 6.1 IP
Right now, Fitts is in the driver's seat in stuff and on the field results. There is a good chance they may need both of them right out of the gate.
I believe it's more about max effort than the time between pitches. If pitchers were dialing it down 2-3 mph and locating, there arms would be in a better position.
The last time he played in MLB, he had a k rate of 40+% over a big sample size. He's an OF Bobby Dalbec. He's a guy that is supposed to go off in Spring Training. You want him in AAA selling tickets, hitting bombs and sending kids home happy.
He has no options. If they put him on the roster, the only way to get him to AAA is to DFA. I think Nate Eaton is more likely an option. Also, it's just Spring Training and these homers mean nothing.
Fitts came into camp with stuff that completely popped. He should get the job. He did tremendous work this offseason. Priester is looking a little better than last year, but he seems behind Fitts now that Fitts has opened a lot of eyes.
