    He's a longshot to be a starter, but not a longshot to come up and provide value like Nate Eaton. Sox need guys like that rather than the Abraham Almontes of the world.

    That Priester deal is ROUGH if you're trying to compete this year and suffer any pitcher injuries. The Devers trade for Hicks, Harrison, May and Bello now solely hinges on unused salary relief and Harrison. Kyle better bring it when he's called up soon. I think Breslow made some smart offseason moves this year, but his tenure has been a bit of a mixed bag to say the least.

    I try not to be optimistic or pessimistic. I just go day by day. Sometimes I look at another team and say "wow, that team is on a bit of a roll and could be trouble" and boy people don't like that! I think this team is better than it has been since '21. It's still exhibiting some frustrating signs that kind of push down my beliefs that they could have a cinderella run (bad, dumb baseball that is played too often). I don't know, I just expect more out of the Red Sox than what we've seen lately. This team is good, but I expect a little more out of a contender and a CBO that says "we'll be buyers" and an ownership group that says the goal is to get to the playoffs. Sam was asked if Breslow had ownership's blessing to be big player's at the deadline and add salary. What happened? It's just all talk from this group and it just has beaten me down this year.

    Considering that Fenway park is the #1 rated doubles park, they better be near the top of that category every year. Triples: Duran (12, leads MLB), Rafaela/Romy (3).

    Brandon Clarke is a top 100 prospect. The prospects and org are highly rated. My guess is that Breslow is hesitant to move on from any of the young pitchers. He only dealt offensive guys: Tibbs (hasn't hit since coming here), Ehrhard (lower ranked guy) and Blaze (Rule 5).

    You will NEVER get a value deal at the deadline unless you are the seller.

    There is a greater than zero chance he never plays a MLB game again. I know some people want to disagree with me because their buddy down the street had that injury and is now playing pickleball at 50% or whatever.

    The only guys I wouldn't have included in a deal for Ryan would be: Tolle, Anthony, Narvaez, Bello and maybe Rafaela. That doesn't make those guys the 5 best players on the team or anything, it's just five guys I wouldn't put in that trade for various reasons at this deadline.

    Ryan has some controlled years left. He's a legit #2. Unless the prospect package added onto the OF was overwhelming, I'd ship off either Abreu or Duran for Ryan.

    What does re-signing him have to do with the trade? Couldn't they just sign him in the offseason if they wanted to and not have had to give up two prospects? No way is the May trade a B.

    The season wasn't wasted, just the trade deadline IMO. They didn't even really move enough of the Rule 5 guys.

    1. Don't say "we're going to be buyers" and then only come away with two rental "upside" guys. In fact, it's better to not say anything at all. 2. Don't say "we understand the fans frustration." See point 1. Communication from the CBO is just downright awful. 3. The ongoing trade deadline punting (22-25), especially for a team that is supposedly making a run at the playoffs, just doesn't make sense. Put away the models and make some moves. When the competition around you is getting better, sitting back and only doing little is only adding fuel to point #2. 4. I mentioned recently that Breslow has started to empty out the org of hitters and only replaced the pitching pipeline. This continued with the trades of Jordan, Tibbs and Ehrhard for two rental pitchers. In a vacuum, the moves aren't a huge problem. However, we've seen what happens when the Sox can't callup internal options when everyday guys get injured in recent years and it wasn't pretty. Tibbs may have been further down the depth chart, but there's a good chance that you'd need him in two years. Same when you just put in a "throwaway" like Ehrhard.

    The prices are always high at the deadline! Especially for cost controlled pitching!

    I think they are worried about the second level. They are most likely over the first level.

    Why did they virtually stand pat in '23 and '24? In '22, they didn't even do enough of a sell off.
