Even if I did overreact (I didn't), I didn't throw around any personal insults. I'd tell you to knock it off, but you'd just get offended most likely. :thumbdown:blink:
The Gomes signing is great because he already has a built in SBF nickname Johnny the Gnome.
If he's Ross' replacement, I may have overestimated the payroll at 100-110. Yikes. Maybe they won't break 100?
Clearly they will make some sort of additions. I think some people are seeing too much into what "large" constitutes for payroll purposes. I bet they are probably at 100-110 for payroll at most. That's a shell of what their payroll used to be.
What's the point in bitching about moves to the roster prior to the Rule V draft? If he didn't makes these moves, wouldn't you be ripping him to pieces?
No matter what happens, there is a good sized faction of people on here who would never give him credit anyway. If a smart move is made, it's clearly because of baseball men (snort) like JH and LL. If a move doesn't workout or is simply for filler, it's just another sign of Ben the Boob.
@PeteAbe: In 2010, #RedSox "won" the offseason with bold, early moves. They failed. Why are so many fans angry with lack of bold, early moves now?
That's basically how I'm feeling too.
Sox need frontline starters and they aren't available via FA this year. Need to make some trades. Getting a 4.00 ERA starter isn't adding much to this team.
86, 03 and 11 were a million times worse than last year. When a team just plain sucks, it's easier to get over. Can't say I've ever been "personally scarred" over a sporting event I was competing in...
I think Dracula would sell in a heartbeat (if he had one), but I think he'll have trouble finding a buyer. I'm just glad he got the winning bidfor the Sox and McCourt got the Dodgers instead.
And why should they? If they were a WS contender and needed one piece, you make one of those trades. As a 69 win team, there is little reason to go balls out for someone not named Felix Hernandez.
Yeah, it's totally good news that he has a horrible addiction to drugs and due to his history, his body will breakdown earlier in life than someone who doesn't struggle with sobriety. Fantastic! I'd give that kind of guy millions of dollars and wouldn't havd any concerns about the ROI.
Also, his eyes are so blue that he's horrible in day games (his assertion). He doesn't finish the season strong. But maybe he can underthrow some balls up in to monster seats. Now that'd be must see tv.
No, there are a few of us left. I'd rather let the prospects compete for MLB jobs than keep them behind bloated contracts for 3 years. I think SS and at least one corner OF spot should be open competition during ST. I'm fine with them going the FA route for 1b and the other corner OF spot if it's for short term deals. With DRoss signed, Lavs needs to play a ton and Salty needs to go.
