Per Alex Speier: "Meanwhile, the Sox had already blown past their international spending guidelines (approximately $1.9 million) for the 2014-15 international amateur signing period, something the team did by signing a pair of highly regarded starting pitchers (Anderson Espinoza and Chris Acosta) to a combined $3.3 million in bonuses. For that reason, the team will not be able to sign any international amateurs under the age of 23 to bonuses in excess of $300,000 in either the 2015-16 or 2016-17 international amateur signing periods. In some ways, then, the Sox seized an opportunity to crash through a closing window on their international amateur free agent possibilities."

They'll be out on international bidding in 2016 and 2017 due to restrictions from the Castillo and Moncada signings.

The stadium in Richmond looks like McCoy did 20 years ago but they don't compare now. That stadium (The Diamond) can't compete these days.

Looks like the teams that don't have an MLB club within 200 miles have the best attendance. I don't see a new stadium providing anything more than a temporary bump in attendance. PawSox compete with the BoSox for dollars.

If they don't go now, they won't go a few years after the new stadium is built. Tickets will be more expensive. Parking will be more expensive.

If they beed to trade Hammels, they meed a better backup plan than Marrero. Imagine trotting Castillo/Vasquez/Marrero put as 7, 8 and 9. Not sure people would pay $100 to see that.

My original post was comparing XB and Marrero. It had nothing to do with Hammels.

A700 said "would Marrero be a drop off from the 2014 blackhole?" I responded "I at least want a guy with upside." Xander has shown that he can hit at times. Marrero hasn't shown that. Xander has the ability to improve on last year's numbers. Marrero does not. His glove is better, but he has a barely adequate AAA bat. Without a decent replacement at SS, they shouldn't move Xander. If they can get someone in a deal for Craig, then they could try to swing a XB Hammels deal.

Apparently it's not very strong. I see value in having it in a different location, I just doubt there will be a big enough jump in attendance to make a move financially viable.

Privately funded doesn't mean they'll be able to throw up a new stadium wherever they please. RI is tremendously slow to do anything of value.
