    The mistake is in thinking that Paps is an infallible cure-all for the Sox failures.

    If you can't play .500 ball, the standings are irrelevant, like in 2012. They were fine in 2011 until the very last week. In 2010, they had a decimated roster and weren't expected to do anything. They made the playoffs in 2009. Can't say that I agree with your point.
