What high priced reliever do they have?

So competitiveness = being a head-case? I didn't like when like would be demonstrative if his fielder's didn't make a play. He's been better about that this year.

Shields has been great this year. KC's problem is the lack of talent filling out the rest of the roster. Shields would be the #1 on the Sox.

It's not really different at all. I think you're still reading too much into it. Lee would only be available for a king's ransom. He's not worth that at his age.

Ask the Phillies why THEY think that. They've shown zero indication of trading anyone, even garbage like Young.

But what about all the trades dumping top prospects for players that barely upgrade what the Sox already have? The trade deadline makes people crazy.

Why? The Phillies are planning on competing for the playoffs next year. Why take 2 steps back?

All these Cuban defectors really bum me out. Our two countries need to work together and end the trade embargo. It's a total anachronism in this day and age.

But I was told on here by a former scout that Lavarnway was "the real deal." I'd only have second thoughts on trading WMB.

I understand, I just think there's a good chance we'd be trading a starting 3b for a guy who doesn't even pitch 20 games for Boston. Yeah, they'd get draft pick compensation 2 years from now, but I'm not entirely sold that Peavy would be enough of an upgrade to lose a decent prospect for. WMB is still only 24.

In all honesty, it's surprising how some of these guys are playing so poorly against LHP. Gomes was brought in specifically to hit lefties. Nava and Salty have always struggled against lefties so that's not a shocker. Clearly Ortiz has been worse in the past against lefties, but this production is a decline from last year. Too bad WMB tanked this year. He could have been a huge difference maker. Also, the loss of Ross is bigger than most people realize.

Norris seems like a #4 to me. The Sox need someone with the potential to be a 1 or 2. Peavy has been dominant in the past and could maybe give you lightning in a bottle. Not sure Norris could.
