  1. It took them 3 whole years to win another WS!!! LOL! What a joke franchise!
  2. "The deadline for teams to submit qualifying offers was 5 p.m. ET on Monday. The $14.1 million salary was determined by averaging the top 125 player salaries from the 2013 season -- the amount is the same regardless of the free agent. Each player has one week -- until 5 p.m. ET on Nov. 11 -- to accept the offer. If he accepts, the one-year deal is complete. If he rejects it, the team making the offer will receive a compensatory Draft pick between the first and second round (assuming the player signs elsewhere). All compensatory picks will be made between the first and second rounds, in reverse order of winning percentage." I had seen it written as Wednesday elsewhere, but this is from mlb.com.
  3. Should the Sox attempt to sign any of the following QO players: Choo, Beltran, Ervin Santana, Cruz, Jimenez, McCann, Morales, Kuroda, Cano, Granderson? I think Santana could be a decent signing, though he had a lot of ups and downs with LAA. Jimenez isn't a sure bet anymore. Not sure if I'd really want to use a 1st round pick on Beltran. Cruz is probably going to want too much $$$ and there are questions about how he'll perform without illicit substances. McCann is going to want way too much $$$ and I'd avoid.
  4. How is that big news? It was a 100% certainty that he was getting a QO and would reject it soon after.
  5. Players have until Wednesday to reject the QO. We'll see if Drew thinks he can get a long term deal.
  6. The Sox moved on from Damon knowing that he wouldn't be able to continue in CF very long. They were right and won a WS without him in 07. Teix started out great, but the $'s and length of contract don't agree to his performance. Ignoring the end of a bad contract is what neutered the Yanks this year. Old players are more prone to injury and reduced production.
  7. They had the 4th highest payroll in MLB and won a WS. Seems like they are spending enough to me.
  8. I don't want ownership to spend money like a drunken sailor. I don't buy the "they have unlimited wealth and should spend all of it" gag.
  9. We don't know how these entities are legally structured, so saying Tanaka's fee would offset NASCAR revenue is a little presumptuous.
  10. John Henry probably couldn't give two shits about the tax implications of paying Tanaka. He's owning the team as an investment so that when he sells in 10 years, he'll triple the money he put in.
  11. In retrospect, that Teixieracontract looks horrible. The Sox made the right decision on Damon as well.
  12. But they own a newspaper! They are basically the robber barons of the early 20th century! John Henry found more hush money in the cushions of his boat when "the incident" happened.
  13. Where do you get those numbers? He's 14.5 for 2014 and has a player option for 2015 at 15.
  14. Flavor of the week.
  15. I'd want Salty short term and have room for Vasquez in 2015.
  16. And non of that has anything to do with ownership losing its way.
  17. Jake Peavy bought the duck boat he was riding on. @JakePeavy_44: Wow what a special day! Thank u all from the bottom of my heart! & yes the boat is now mine & hopefully in the family forever!#BostonStrong
  18. "Uh Mr Lackey, I wanted to uh apologize for what some posters said about you on Talksox." "What the f*** is a talksox?"
  19. Dude, he sucked in 2011. And wasn't treated that badly anyway.
  20. He was on Nava and Lester's boat.
  21. I'd offer a QO to only Nap and Ells. I'd try to sign Salty for 2/20. 14M is too much for one year of Salty. There were only like 6-8 QO's offered in all of MLB last year.
  22. It's my birthright as a Sox fan for the past decade! Duh!!!
  23. Salty is a good dude though. ^stopping at the finish line with Gomes and Napoli.
