That's a little high for reliever money though. The highest AAV in last year's FA class for relievers was $8.3.
He's still going to want starter money probably similar to Chen's 5/80.
I guess it never hurts to ask?
They were swept. It's tough to say they would've won if they had HFA. If they made it to game 5 after winning 2 straight at home, maybe the argument could be made.
The Sox are at their best when Pedroia is playing well. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=8370&position=2B When Pedey stays healthy and uses RF more often, I have zero complaints about him.
So if that means they get to pick 2 out of 3 of the B's (Bogey, JBJ and Betts), would it really close the window if JBJ moved on? This team has the financial structure where it doesn't have to go through extensive rebuilding phases.
They are not that far removed from winning 90+ games in 5 out of 6 years. The fanbase may not show up, but they get decent tv ratings and players get to live in a very comfortable part of the country with a cheap tax rate. I don't see much of a downside.
The threat of the franchise moving is overblown. It's more likely that they build a new stadium near Tampa than move out of state.
If they walk, it'll because the ownership cheapened out. They can afford to keep any guy that comes through the system. If they choose not to, that's another discussion altogether.
Dombrowski stated that the main job of the manager is to keep the ship running, not tactical maneuvers. It's the organizational philosophy at the moment. If you don't agree, you'll just have to hold your nose until Dombrowski is gone.
Salty had a career best WAR.
Napoli's WAR approximates his total WAR for the following 3 years.
Buchholz had 2.8 WAR in half a season.
Lot's of things went right for the Sox that year.
