  1. Of the previous 5 years, he only started slow once. That was in 2014 when he had a down year.
  2. Having a negative opinion isn't hovering like a buzzard.
  3. He hasn't started a game in forever. He'd have to be streched out first unless you only want him going 3 innings. He was out last year for TJS. It doesn't make sense to just have him start a game for the heck of it.
  4. You think he's healthy or that health hasn't been a concern for him in 2017?
  5. There's a very good chance he can be promoted this year, so it's ok to talk about him here.
  6. I'd bring up Brian Johnson again or try Hector Velazquez.
  7. Complaining about a fill in 5th starter is low hanging fruit. You're right, there are REAL problems that deserve a discussion.
  8. Should have called up Brian Johnson.
  9. Kill me. Thanks Farrell.
  10. Now I need a cold shower...
  11. August call up for Devers! - Speier
  12. Best defensive 3b in org! - Speier
  13. That sweet sweet Devers talk.......
  14. Speier, just say DEVERS!!!!!!!!!
  15. ^ Doesn't remember Beni or Moncada skipping AAA last year.
  16. I'm on board for him learning on the job if it means he becomes a cornerstone for this franchise at 3B. We've taken lumps with Bogey, Pedroia and Trot Nixon. I'm fine with giving Devers a long leash.
  17. I cheer for results, not effort. I don't hand out participation trophies.
  18. http://news.soxprospects.com/2017/04/scouting-scratch-rafael-devers.html A lot of the questions about Devers center around his defense, but these concerns have evolved not from actual concerns about his ability to field but rather questions when he signed about whether he would grow out of third base, necessitating a move to first. If you see him play the field, it’s clear that there is no reason to discuss a move off third base at this point. Perhaps, he could eventually become too big, similar to what happened to Miguel Cabrera, but his skills should allow him to stick at third for the foreseeable future. Devers is a below-average runner already and not the most athletic player, but he shows off surprising range and agility moving both laterally and charging the ball. Over the four games scouted, Devers made one error charging a ball that he stabbed at to the side, rather than fielding out in front, but he also made several very good plays. He has soft hands and his footwork is surprisingly good. He made one very nice play in the season opener ranging to his left to cut off a ball in the hole between third and short, and he made two others that same day charging slow rollers, fielding them with his glove and making smooth transfers to his throwing hand and then strong, accurate throws to first base. Devers has plenty of arm for third with it grading as plus currently. Devers is unlikely to be a Gold Glove candidate, but he also won’t be a butcher and should develop into at least an average third baseman, an outcome the Red Sox will happily accept given his offensive potential.
  19. He only plays 3B. Eventually he may move to 1B, but he's a professional defender now. He won't wow you, but he's better than any other 3B they have in the Northeast.
  20. He was the minor league defensive player of the year last year for the Red Sox.
  21. It's retroactive with eligibility to come off on 6/2. This isn't surprising. Was done so that they can get Kendrick to pitch tonight.
  22. If he plays defense like he did in 2015, he won't be worth jack.
  23. Devers Devers Devers Devers Devers Devers http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=646240#/career/R/hitting/2017/ALL He's hitting better right now in AA than Moncada or Beni were last year.
