  1. I think Devers is a better 3B than Moncada and it's not close. I also don't see them going cheap at both 1B AND 3B, maybe one or the other.
  2. I will disagree with you since I've lived in 2 other larger markets as well. I don't believe Boston is a more hardcore sports town. I just think more Bostonians move to other places in the country because the weather sucks and it's too expensive. This causes more Sox fans to be seen throughout the country so it just "seems" like we are more hardcore.
  3. Annual: IT'S DECEMBER, WHY HAVEN'T THEY SIGNED ANYONE YET!!!!!! WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR?!?!?!?!
  4. As the "cap" increases, so will all of the contracts handed out. I don't think the cap going up $20M factors in whether they resign Bogaerts. It's more about how much they value him.
  5. f*** Dan Shaughnessy. He doesn't represent the fan base or even the media.
  6. Hype and gyroball nonsense doesn't mean that anyone reasonably thought he was a #1. I think most people saw him as a wild card that could be a #2. Nobody thought he was Pedro reincarnated.
  7. The reaction to Lackey was as follows: 1. He's ok, but I wish he was a little better, maybe he's just a postseason guy. 2. He completely sucks. WTH? He's absolutely dogshit. 3. Chicken and beer rabble rabble rabble (which many people on here didn't care about). 4. Oh, I guess he gets a pass for being injured. Maybe he can be serviceable after surgery. 5. Hey, this guy isn't so bad and his contract is cheap for 2015! 6. Wait, we're trading him for Joe Kelly and a broken down Allen Craig? I guess they have upside? FML.
  8. Exactly. The days of Boston being a hard place to play in are long gone.
  9. I went back and looked through the 2012 threads and there isn't much whining about AGon. http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/15655-Adrian-Gonzalez-s-Power-Outage-and-Previous-11-of-13-Next-Jon-Lester-s-Baffling-Incon In this post http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/15847-So-you-re-the-Sox-GM-What-s-your-plan there is zero discussion of moving on from AGon at the deadline. There is mild criticism of AGon on this post http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/15923-Report-Gonzo-Sox-blast-Bobby-V-to-Owners, but it is not a wide swath of fans as it seems most people agreed that Valentine sucked and saw that AGon and Pedroia were basically saying the same stuff. Hell, there were more posts complaining about Papi rants than posts about AGon. That certainly doesn't mean Papi was hated by a large swath of fans. Maybe it was a bigger deal on other boards? I just don't really remember anyone really caring about AGon talking about back to back games, or headphones or whatever...
  10. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/afl/club.jsp?team_id=542 Sox sent Dubon, Kopech, Ball, Beeks, Jamie Callahan and Danny Mars. I haven't heard of Callahan or Mars.
  11. This is just nonsense. Carl Crawford was treated with kid gloves when he was here. Josh Beckett wasn't treated poorly until all of the Chicken and Beer stuff happened. People didn't like AGon's diminishing power, but I don't remember anyone really complaining about him as a player. There was no wide swath of fans vilifying any of these three.
  12. Shaw isn't eligible for the AFL. Last year he played 1 game in Puerto Rico. AFL Rules: Eligibility Rules The eligibility rules to play in the AFL are simple. The roster size is 30 players per team. Each Major League organization is required to provide six players subject to the following requirements: All Triple-A and Double-A players are eligible, provided the players are on at least a Double-A level roster no later than Aug. 1. One player below the Double-A level is allowed per Major League team. One foreign player is allowed, as long as the player does not reside in a country that participates in winter ball, as part of the Caribbean Confederation or the Australian winter league. No players with more than one year of credited Major League service as of August 31 are eligible, except a team may select one player picked in the most recently concluded Major League Rule 5 Draft. To be eligible, players on Minor League disabled lists must be activated at least 45 days before the conclusion of their respective seasons.
  13. Yeah, I think DiceK was a lottery ticket. I don't think anyone thought he'd be the #1 guy.
  14. He should have stuck with the Rice-A-Roni for our sake.
  15. The next two games he pitched weren't highlight reels either.
  16. How could it have possibly affected his long term career? He pitched great the following year.
  17. I have zero interest in this. Absolutely zero. He was a clubhouse cancer (per Tim Flannery) and he left pouting like an 8 year old. No thanks. or That whale has sailed. or No comparison of Pablito vs. Shark, thank you. Shark has an upside. Pablo's only chance for expanding performance is in his waistline. Whoever started that rumor is seriously deranged. Why is it that only Boston fans are mean to underperforming players?!?!?!?!?!?
  18. I find it hard to believe that wonderful Giants fans would do any sort of character assassination on Pablo: We have Gillaspie, and Nunez, Left field is the spot we need someone for. Plus, the way Pablo put on weight once he left wasn't good in any way. His stomach resembled a woman with baby. Pablo, needs to have someone stay on him about his weight, what to eat, how much to eat, etc. So, thats a deal breaker if he won't follow the rules that the Giants set up to make sure he stayed on track. He was useless to the red sox because of his weakness for food. Personally, I don't think it's a good move. Because he is not serious about keeping the weight off. Weakness for food? Not serious about keeping the weight off? That's just not fair to Pablo!
  19. Well, let's just ask another Giants fan then: Chublo also said he wanted to go to the RedSox for a new challenge. I'm not sure what he meant. If he wanted a challenge, perhaps the Twins or Rockies would have been a nice destination. I'm not sure the Giants equipment manager wants him to come back, because that would require the equipment manager to try to fuse three belts together to fit a 78 inch waist so there was no repeat of when fatty's belt buckle exploded last season when he was in the batter's box. Hmmm...
  20. Since we know how terrible us Puritans are, let's see how Giants feel about Pablo: **** that clown. Says the Giants disrespected his fatass, then signs with Boston, sucked for a year, then eats himself out of yet another starting job. Way to go lardass. Yeah you've been disrespected, right. Never accept responsibility for your ****ups when there's someone else you can blame. The new American dream. Oh?
  21. 1. Put Pablo on a diet. 2. Make him wipe the Cheetos dust off his uniform. 3. Liposuction (worked well for Paul Wight). 4. If the above fails, just have him be a spokesperson for Dunkies and create a Pablo Sandoval line of donuts. That would get a lot of fans on his side.
  22. ftfy.
  23. I can't believe they broke Cla Meredith by letting him give up that grand slam and then having him go back on the mound the following day. THEY RUINED HIS CAREER!!!! This is not an argument a sane individual would make.
  24. Porcello worked out this year. Beckett was our ace for a few years. The only guy I can think of that was brought in to be an ace that didn't work out was Price and he still has a chance to redeem himself. The only other big acquisition was Lackey and he really was only expected to be a #3.
