Not sure what any of this has to do with the ZiPS projections telling us that the Sox were supposed to be very bad this year and the Mariners very good?
Seems like the Mariners were hoping to acquire a fulltime 2b rather than the hodgepodge they are running out there this season? This doesn't mean it would have been a good trade.
Technically, they DID compete for a playoff spot in '22, '23 and '24, but just failed down the stretch. Competing doesn't mean you get in every year, right?
I think they have an idea of an extension amount they'd sign him for today (the Campbell extension or less because of health concerns), but it's lower than Mayer would take.
There is always player turnover due to injury or poor performance. Just because it looks good now, doesn't mean it won't drive off a cliff.
C - Narvaez should be good enough if the defense holds. Wong - DFA.
1B - Casas - Yuck. Campbell - we'll see. Toro is replaceable.
2B - Romy is good for now, but "for now" should be emphasized. Mayer is injured every season. Grissom - DFA. Hamilton - DFA. Sogard/Eaton - who cares.
SS - Story looks great right now, but his contract has been called an albatross and many wanted him DFA'd before this hot stretch.
3B - Bregman is most likely testing the market.
RF - Anthony should probably be the guy for the next 9 years here. Is Abreu even needed anymore?
CF - Rafaela should probably be the guy until his contract runs out, but he'll be used as a UTIL unfortunately.
LF - Duran should probably be the guy until his contract runs out since he can back up CF. Garcia may get traded due to backlog. Refsnyder may not be re-signed. Masa has had a rough year and is very disliked by Cora.
The Patriots had more failures than rings during the Brady years and I don't think anyone is coming away saying "6 rings don't make up for the 13 years they didn't win the SB." Crazy take.
I think they end up over the first line this season, so they'll try to stay under next season. Just my guess considering the potential work stoppages coming up and not knowing what the new CBA could look like.
Needs to really spend a lot of time this season working on his defense. We knew the defense was a work in progress to begin with, but once the bat took a step back it was a lot to overcome.
