Holt may never play in BOS again due to his vertigo. Rutledge is a AAAA guy and easilty replaceable. They brought in Perralta because you never know if you can catch lightning in a bottle with a guy. Also, they need to field a full roster in Pawtucket and have had a ton of injuries this year.

Probably to keep practicing their defense at other positions. If Lin can keep hitting about .275, he'll have a bench spot since he's more athletic than Holt or Rutledge.
