  2. So then maybe Sale is part of our next great team?
  3. Beat the Rays. Hail Satan. \m/
  4. The author of that article isn't even out of High School yet. It seems his knowledge of the history of Sox transactions is kind of suspect. He was still learning his ABC's when Aaron Boone took Wakefield deep. Anyone who can't comprehend the mindset of growing up with a perennial also-ran, shouldn't be fretting about the state of the franchise right now. The sky isn't falling. Theo traded prospects. Ben made some terrible signings. I don't think this person really understands market value. David Price is worth that contract. That's what you spend on the open market. Should they have used it on a different pitcher? Yes, most of us think they should have just signed Lester to begin with. However, saying none of DD's moves were smart just comes off as a pretty dumb statement. "Why not try to be crafty" is basically playing fantasy baseball. Unless you're in on the phone calls, how would you know if a better deal could have been had? Blah, whatever.
  5. That line is a real groaner to me. Theo: AGon and CC Ben: Hanley and Pablo I think the "all-in" comes from ownership, not from the GM. Unless there was some unknowable sabermetric reason to spend all that money on CC, Pablo and Hanley? I don't think the recent moves are that much different from how they've operated in the past.
  6. I kind of wonder if this Sox ownership group isn't worried about a long term outlook. Maybe they are planning on selling in a few years?
  7. Hell just froze over!
  8. sss!!!!!!!!!
  9. Fun is allowed on here?
  10. The Sox don't have a great history of developing top pitching talent. The 2004 rotation included no homegrown players (unless you count Schilling). The 2007 rotation included Lester (pitched in 12 games all season) and Paplebon as closer. The 2013 rotation included Lester and Clay. Our next great team is going to come from a mix of homegrown players, trades and smart FA signings as they all have.
  11. https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/left-on-base-per-game It makes sense that the Sox would leave more runners on since they get more runners on base than any other team. A LOB% stat could be more useful.
  12. On pace for 144 doubles this year. The record is 67. Easy peasy.
  13. It was the right call to make though. Literally no one else on the roster could have pinch ran for him. After Ortiz had advanced to 2b, it made complete sense to take a starting pitcher who is used to having 4-5 days off between games to run onto the field at a moment's notice. He was fresh!
  14. This one should be a gimmie.
  15. The "real" closer would be Carson Smith, once he's ready. Kimbrel is just the 9th inning guy.
  16. Steven Wright is an *******. I'm out on him.
  17. Billy Beane is no Theo Epstein. He may even not be as good as Ben Cherington or Dave Dombrowski (WS appearances for Marlins and Tigers). Beane has only won 1 playoff series ever. Sad! I'm glad he didn't take a job with the Sox.
  18. Worse than having to hear Hawk Harrelson?
  19. And no rings because "baseball is just random" or whatever nonsense Beane yells before he beats up a Coke machine in the book.
  20. Pedroia 2B, Benintendi CF, Betts RF, Ramirez DH, Moreland 1B, Bogaerts SS, Sandoval 3B, Young LF, Leon C
  21. I think he's a decent pitcher. I had injury concerns both prior to and after the trade. I'm just not sure he can hold up. If he stays healthy for a long stretch, it will really benefit this team. Peak Pomeranz > ERod and Wright
  22. Are the radio broadcast streams blacked out as well?
  23. I don't expect anything from Raudes. If Groome doesn't make it, the next great Sox pitching prospect isn't in the organization yet.
  24. http://www.overthemonster.com/2017/4/12/15269616/fernando-abad-where-did-you-come-from-where-did-you-go Either way, it’s strange that a veteran like Abad, who was tendered a contract this winter when the team could have just walked away for nothing, hasn’t gotten to throw in a game yet. At this point, it’s entirely unclear what his role on this team could possibly be. ... The only issue with that plan is that Abad is out of minor-league options and thus would have to be exposed to waivers if designated for assignment. Even if he cleared waivers, he may not accept a demotion to Pawtucket. As we’ve seen this year with the absurd flu epidemic, keeping depth around is important. With that being said, at a certain point it becomes unnecessary. When the team doesn’t trust a player in seemingly any situation, I think we’ve reached that point. If this is how it ends for Abad and the Red Sox, it begs a couple of questions. For one, why was he even tendered a contract this winter? I know we’ve talked about this before, but it’s worth rehashing very quickly. It’s understandable that Scott came into camp and pitched better than expected. However, it’s clear at this point that Farrell doesn’t trust Abad at all. So, is this a new phenomena? It must be, since one would imagine the manager had some input as to whether they’d keep the lefty.
