  1. Nobody here liked BDC.
  2. Maybe WMB is available? We could probably stash him in PAW.
  3. Effffffffffff BDC.
  4. Honestly, PAW should just be 25 starting pitchers on MiLB deals.
  5. http://blog.masslive.com/redsoxmonster/2013/03/boston_red_sox_2013_questions.html Middlebrooks has the strength to hit 30 home runs, that's not the issue. The real question is how often he makes contact, and how solid that contact is. The 15 home runs are encouraging but here are two other 2012 stats that should cause concern: Middlebrooks drew only 13 walks and he struck out 70 times. The Red Sox have always stressed the value of drawing walks and not striking out too much. Last season's squad strayed from that formula. The Red Sox were fifth in the American League in strikeouts and ranked 13th in drawing walks. With the team trying to get back into the habit of striking out less and drawing more walks it isn't out of the question that a player such as Middlebrooks finds himself hitting home runs at a decreasing rate. Making contact can mean hitting the ball to the opposite field, but that's generally not a great formula for producing a ton of home runs. Middlebrooks also hit 5 of his 15 home runs on the first pitch. Players looking to cut down on strikeouts and work more walks don't swing at the first pitch all that often.

  7. There was definitely not that kind of hype around WMB.

  9. http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/264016712/2017-breakout-major-league-baseball-players Rafael Devers emerged as an impact player in 58 games at third base for the Red Sox and is poised to become a star in Boston.

  15. Edgar is never getting into the HOF, you should temper your expectations.
  16. You could use the same argument for signing Ubaldo Jimenez. edit - Garza is injured
  17. Apparently we have to consider his ceiling from *checks post* five years ago.
  18. It doesn't seem like there is any reason to think a deal is going to go down today or tomorrow so it's weird to see people post stuff like "Man ....I can't even believe it ! Get off work and head home convinced there would be something .....anything ...... Nothing ? I'm not mad now I'm not disappointed ..I'm genuinely concerned now." There's been no indication that JD is close to signing. I think we're all stuck in a holding pattern for a while. Getting worked up everyday that it's finally going to be the day something will happen seems like wasted energy to me.
  19. https://www.overthemonster.com/2018/1/31/16952980/red-sox-bullpen-depth-chart-ty-buttrey Anyone think Ty Buttrey can make an impact this year? I just don't think he'll ever be able to locate his pitches. Good "stuff" but the consistency is lacking.
  20. It is a pretty typical clause. Especially for guys who are used to being paid as top of the rotation starters. To think he's just going to sit in AAA all year is kinda laughable tbh. He's 33. He has a lengthy injury history, a slight frame and an uneven track record when healthy. If you think he's even remotely similar to Alex Cobb, I really don't know what to say. Cobb has been a 2 WAR pitcher every year that he's appeared in 10+ games. The majority of Buchholz's seasons have been worth less than 1 WAR.
  21. Out of all the Sox players who got into 50+ games, he had the highest OPS. He is their core.
  22. I too enjoy watching crappy offenses.
  23. There's nothing going on. Not sure why people are thinking a signing is imminent.
  24. He sucks. They can do better. Why waste a roster spot in AAA?
  25. When ML guys sign minor league deals, there is typically language that they will be brought up by a certain date or released. I wouldn't want the Sox to feel compelled to call up a broken down and fragile 33 year old over a younger pitcher with more upside.
