This isn't true. If you plug in his current numbers and prorate it for the remainder of the season, he ends up being a -1.5 WAR player including his defense. As long as his OPS is above .550, he's at least replacement level. Below that, he's not a AAAA guy. His bare minimum should be .650 to be a starter and bat 9th.
His offense isn't as bad as it looks right now, but his defense isn't the greatest the league has ever seen.
